Coordinates: Gangavathi is a town and a city municipal council in Koppal district in the state of Karnataka, India.

Gangavathi is located at [1]. It has an average elevation of 406 metres (1332 feet). Gangavathi is commercially very active place. Since it is situated close on the border of Andhra pradesh, you can find a very distinct influence of Telugu in the town. Although kannada is the primary language spoken here you can find a lot of people who can speak both Telugu and Kannada comfortably. Hampi, a well known UNESCO Heritage site is just 14 km from this place. Gangavathi was one many talukas in Raichur District. When Koppal district was carved out of Raichur, Gangavathi became part of Koppal district.

As of 2001 India census[2], Gangavathi had a population of 93,249. Males constitute 51% of the population and females 49%. Gangavathi has an average literacy rate of 57%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 48%. In Gangavathi, 15% of the population is under 6 years of age.
