Isn't there a difference between a quiz show and a game show? I mean Who Wants To Be A Millionaire? is a quiz show, but something like The Price is Right is a game show.

To 142.177.82.89 - I don't think the Aussie programme was called Castaways, it may have been renamed that for US audiences though. Anyway I think that was a remake of a Nnorwegian program. Also Big Brother emerged at about the same time (and has been FAR more popular in the rest of the world than the Survivor clones), which was of Dutch origin. I will add more when I've researched it. Right, research is kind of done. I think for the Aussie show Castaway you were thinking of is actually Castaway 2000 which was a British show produced by the BBC, and it wasn't really a game show. IIRC it was more of a social experiment. The Survivor concept is also British in origin. Bob Geldof's TV production company Planet 24 came up with the concept but couldn't get a British broadcaster to put it on, it was eventually taken up by the Swedes as Expedition Robinson in 1997 and spread around the world from there. I will be adding this to this article (and Survivor) soonish unless someone else wants to do it. Mintguy

Definiton of both game and quiz ahows:
game show
n. A television show in which contestants compete for prizes by playing games of knowledge or chance.
quiz show
n. A television or radio program in which the contestants' knowledge is tested by questioning, with some contestants winning money or prizes

Can we combine the US and UK list together? There seems to be a lot of overlap. user:J.J.

I think some of the overlaps are errors. A lot of the shows listed under UK shows are not UK shows AFAIK. Mintguy (T) 09:30, 26 Feb 2004 (UTC)I've removed the following shows because they were listed as British and AFAIK they are not. I guess they should be added back as US shows.

  • First, I'm not sure listing all the game shows in the world here is a smart move, as the page length will get waaaay out of shape. Secondly, the main article really needs knocking into shape as it's very US-biased (when it should really balance formats from US, UK, Japan with some Australia/NZ, Netherlands etc.) and waffles on about unimportant aspects like scoreboards and the like. Interesting fandom stuff but not really suitable for a short history of game shows. Davidbod 22:45, 28 February 2007 (UTC)

  • I just find it a bit redundant that there be a list of game shows on the main page (not to mention wildly incomplete and cumbersome) when there exists a category for the same. I think that it should at least be moved onto its own list page. AOEU Warrior 23:43, 4 September 2007 (UTC)

Shouldn't this be included:
