[edit] Source added
I plan to add the Bravo special series, The Reality of Reality, to the list of sources. I believe this aired in 2004. If you remember the show, and would like to correct this information, please do so now.
I am also seeking permission to remove the tags.--Desmond Hobson 01:31, 29 August 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Original research
Apparently you didn't understand the point of the tags: it's not the trivial question of whether things mentioned in the article occurred, it's the much larger question of whether the term "game opera" actually exists (outside of one guy using it), whether the term is actually used by scholars (outside of one guy), and whether all the sweeping conclusions is derived from existing scholarship (outside of one guy) as opposed to being made up on the fly. Read WP:No original research for more. --Calton | Talk 02:17, 4 November 2006 (UTC)
- I have read and understand why Calton made his entry. All his points are valid, and I again have underestimated the standards of Wikipedia. Then again, there should still be a page called "game opera" or something similar, because it is a large subset of reality television. I established this page to distinguish these shows from non-competitive reality programs such as The Real World, Hogan Knows Best, and Dog the Bounty Hunter. I would like your suggestions as to what to do, including additional sources other than what is already on the page. Maybe something from Robert Thompson at Syracuse University, just as an example. - Desmond Hobson 18:39, 6 December 2006 (UTC)
- While it's not a commonly used term, it's a useful category. I vote for maintaining this page & linking "Reality televison" to it. Ventifax 23:16, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- "Not commonly used" appears to be an understatement. Again, if it ain't being used in the real world or by just one guy, then Wikipedia calls it "original research" and is supposed to exclude it. --Calton | Talk 23:58, 4 March 2007 (UTC)
- Nope, it's being used in the real world & not by just one guy. According to these links, it's used in the trade.[1][2] It's a uncommon term in the general public, but that's no reason to delete it. It is interesting though that the phrase "game opera" is getting use in another sense in the realm of computer gaming.[3]Ventifax 23:24, 14 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] I give up!
Since it looks like neither Robert Thompson nor anyone else came through to "save" me, I am putting this page and reality television up for merge. - Desmond Hobson 19:02, 22 February 2007 (UTC)
[edit] Utterly unnotable
As stated above, the term "game opera" is not notable and doesn't deserve its own article. In addition, a lot of the content here is just one person's opinions. I want to make this a redirect to "Reality television", if no one objects. Any important facts that are here can be copied over to that article. Korny O'Near 01:42, 14 March 2007 (UTC)
- You can go ahead, Korny. I have made no other changes, except for a new paragraph about the relative worth of the prizes. Frankly, I'm still surprised that the page is still here. Hopefully, this merge will be an incentive to have a better-sourced main page. - Desmond Hobson 01:14, 11 May 2007 (UTC)
