Gammaridae is a family of amphipods. In North American, they are commonly called scuds [1]. They have a wide distribution, centered on Eurasia.

[edit] Systematics

The Gammaridae were for a long time used as a "wastebin taxon" for numerous other genera of Gammaridea. these have now been removed to groups such as the Anisogammaridae, Calliopiidae, Melitidae, Niphargidae, Pontoporeiidae or Talitridae.

The following genus list is incomplete and has not been verified against a current source. Many genera probably are now placed in other families such as the Baikalogammaridae. Limits of several genera are subject of debate and some (such as Gammarus) might not be monophyletic.

  • Liagoceradocus
  • Longigammarus
  • Marinogammarus
  • Megaluropus[verification needed]
  • Melitoides[verification needed]
  • Niphargogammarus
  • Obesogammarus
  • Pallasiola
  • Paraniphargoides
  • Pontogammarus
  • Pseudoniphargus
  • Rhipidogammarus
  • Sarothrogammarus
  • Sensonator
  • Shablogammarus
  • Stenogammarus
  • Synurella
  • Turkogammarus
  • Uroniphargoides
  • Yogmelina
