[edit] History

GameZone was founded in 1996 in Livonia, MI by Jeff and Kathy Connors as GameZone Online. Although GameZone Online remains the website's official name, the name is typically shortened to GameZone.

[edit] Coverage

GameZone covers all current game platforms. The website has pages for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, Wii, PlayStation 2, Xbox, GameCube, PC, PlayStation Portable, Game Boy Advance, and Nintendo DS. Additionally, GameZone provides coverage of mobile and MMOG games. GameZone's review archive is currently at 4,116 reviews, making it the third largest archive on Game Rankings among websites and 4th largest among all websites and print publications.[1] GameZone's website lists nearly 30 reviewers, but the website does not make a distinction between in-house staff and freelancers. Further, GameZone does not give titles to its reviewers.[2]

[edit] Notability

GameZone's success has been recognized by other websites. Independent publishers redistribute GameZone's content on their websites. GameZone's content can be found on IGN's Rotten Tomatoes and GameStats, CNET's Metacritic and Game Rankings, and Ziff Davis' GameTab.com. These websites are owned and operated by IGN, CNET, and Ziff Davis, which have no relation to GameZone. GameZone's review scores are included in the composite review score for all games that GameZone reviews.

GameZone has also gained popularity for redistributing content for other websites through its "Online Game Sites" feature. Although it includes many websites, GameZone places additional emphasis on its affiliates.[3] Notable affiliates include MobyGames, PGNx Media, and Gaming Target.[4] GameZone is unique in this regard since it is notable both for its original content, as well as its review aggregation. The review aggregation services mentioned above do not produce their own content.
