[edit] Hamilton

Just for future reference, a list of television stations in a city's article is required to list stations by their legal callsign and their over-the-air channel number, not by their brand name and cable assignment. The station is to be listed as channel 11 CHCH-TV, not "channel 12 CH". Bearcat 00:40, 5 April 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Useful tool (not you!)

I would like to thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. However, it is recommended that you use the preview button before you save; this helps you find any errors you have made, and prevents clogging up recent changes and the page history. Thanks again. [edit] Ethnic groups

I noticed that you have been adding a lot of useful information from Canadian census reports to articles about individual cities and towns. You might note that when referring to ethnic origin, it is preferable to link to an article that that specifically discusses the ethnic group rather than their (original) country or their language—for example, English is preferable in this context to English or (worst of all) English, which is a disambiguation page. [edit] White British

Thanks for your recent contributions to the White British article. Your edits, although unsourced, make much more sense. Marcus1234 17:50, 16 November 2006 (UTC)

[edit] White Canadian statistics

I reverted your change of the population percentage in White Canadian. The figure is given as "of the Canadian population", so it should be derived by dividing single responses by total population, not single responses by total single responses.[1] Michael Z. 2006-11-29 00:27 Z

[edit] Hamilton, Ontario

Hello Galati........

Welcome to wikipedia. I notice when you make your contributions to wikipedia that you are not using your "Edit Summary" box. This is a useful tool to use because for one thing it takes alot of the guess work for the rest of us and we can then better understand why an edit was made.

Secondly, When citing sources use Citation Templates. The Templates provide a standard format for citations and often cause a contributor not to forget key elements. For example, the cite web template requires, URL, ACCESSDATE and TITLE. There are additional fields, but it will error out if you don't atleast contribute those 3 elements. You may want to see WP:CITET.

Wikipedia is an encyclopedia and the Hamilton, Ontario article has gone through with some major cleanup and it is now an article with over 100 citations on it. You may also want to take a look at WP:NOT for an explanation of what wikipedia is not.

Have fun!Nhl4hamilton 17:40, 12 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Adriano, come stai

Hey, hows it going, I just noticed you recently signed up on Wiki (I have you on Facebook). I figured since we have similar interests in ethnology, we should work together, ciao. - Epf (talk) 05:22, 15 February 2008 (UTC) (Evan)

 • Hey, ya its me, lol. If you want to, you can copy and paste some from my user page or you can go to 2 to get some ideas on making new ones or where to find ones that are already created. Ciao, Epf (talk) 22:36, 15 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Your recent edits

Hi there. In case you didn't know, when you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion, you should sign your posts by typing four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment. If you can't type the tilde character, you should click on the signature button Image:Signature_icon.png located above the edit window. This will automatically insert a signature with your name and the time you posted the comment. This information is useful because other editors will be able to tell who said what, and when. Thank you! --SineBot (talk) 19:26, 25 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Italians

Hello Galati. I had a look at the reference you point to in your vote and, I must say, it does not specifically say what the "Appearance" section claims it does. It leaves huge margins for error, in any event, and goes on to say that Italians are quite homogeneous apart from the influences at the north and south ends (how can it be both?). I think someone just pointed to this book to make it an open-and-shut case, thinking no one would actually have a look. I've also followed up on the author (Luigi Cavalli-Sforza), a very controversial figure whose theories are today mostly disproven. I urge you to check up on the reference given before claiming there is a valid reference- it doesn't say only what is selected in the article! Also, Epf provided a link which also contradicts the whole notion! See you Dionix (talk) 21:50, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

Hi Galati. I had a quick read through the French reference you posted- interesting stuff! It makes reference mostly to immigration, however, not necessarily native populations, which is what I thought you were referring to. Native Italian population in France must be much less as Nice, Savoy and Corsica areas (areas originally Italian) mustn't number more than a couple of million today, and they aren't all Italians so the number would be less. It is interesting to consider that Italians have migrated to France since medieval times, so if you go back more than three generations (as teh book does), the number would be much, much higher. Take care and thanks for the info Dionix (talk) 22:56, 26 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hamilton, Ontario

"... I believe is by far, the worst city in Canada." The Hell it is! What about Kitchener? Or Winipeg?

Seriously though ... you enquired about the origins of the Irish travellers. They are exactly the same as the rest of the Irish nation. They share the same surnames and genetics as us. Where they differ is in being very insular, uneducated, and culturally backward. By that I mean that they are still pursueing the same lifestyle most lower-class Irish people had a century ago. Early marriage, little education, large families, generational feuding, and generally shorter lifespans. Now this is changeing, but very slowly, and only with the women. Unemployment is endemic among them as they do not value education, thus few complete even primary education. All is much the same as the rest of the poorer class of the Irish nation, once upon a time; but what keeps them where they are is their nomadic culture and xenephobic relations with wider Irish society. Up till recently they could and did work as tinkers, but society has changed, and they have not changed with it. There are a number of them who have become very rich via scrap dealing, but others have resorted to crime. This is my take on it, as an Irishman. Fergananim (talk) 22:12, 7 May 2008 (UTC)
