[edit] Notability of Brian Wanless

A tag has been placed on Brian Wanless, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a person, group of people, band, club, company, or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not assert the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}} on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm the subject's notability under Wikipedia guidelines.

For guidelines on specific types of articles, you may want to check out our criteria for biographies, for web sites, for bands, or for companies. Feel free to leave a note on my talk page if you have any questions about this. Anonymous Dissident Utter 18:03, 10 June 2007 (UTC)

[edit] License tagging for Image:G4 logo big.jpg

Thanks for uploading Image:G4 logo big.jpg. Wikipedia gets thousands of images uploaded every day, and in order to verify that the images can be legally used on Wikipedia, the source and copyright status must be indicated. Images need to have an image tag applied to the image description page indicating the copyright status of the image. This uniform and easy-to-understand method of indicating the license status allows potential re-users of the images to know what they are allowed to do with the images.

For more information on using images, see the following pages:

This is an automated notice by OrphanBot. If you need help on selecting a tag to use, or in adding the tag to the image description, feel free to post a message at Wikipedia:Media copyright questions. 18:08, 24 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Orphaned non-free media (Image:Squints front.jpg)

Thanks for uploading Image:Squints front.jpg. The media description page currently specifies that it is non-free and may only be used on Wikipedia under a claim of fair use. However, it is currently orphaned, meaning that it is not used in any articles on Wikipedia. If the media was previously in an article, please go to the article and see why it was removed. You may add it back if you think that that will be useful. However, please note that media for which a replacement could be created are not acceptable for use on Wikipedia (see our policy for non-free media).

If you have uploaded other unlicensed media, please check whether they're used in any articles or not. You can find a list of 'image' pages you have edited by clicking on the "my contributions" link (it is located at the very top of any Wikipedia page when you are logged in), and then selecting "Image" from the dropdown box. Note that all non-free media not used in any articles will be deleted after seven days, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. Thank you. BJBot (talk) 12:19, 15 May 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Notability of Offwhyte

A tag has been placed on Offwhyte requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done because the article appears to be about a real person, organization (band, club, company, etc.), or web content, but it does not indicate how or why the subject is notable: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not indicate the subject's importance or significance may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as notable. If this is the first page that you have created, then you should read the guide to writing your first article.

If you think that you can assert the notability of the subject, you may contest the deletion by adding {{hangon}} to the top of the article (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag), coupled with adding a note on the article's talk page explaining your position, but be aware that once tagged for speedy deletion, if the article meets the criterion it may be deleted without delay.

CyberGhostface (talk) 13:20, 22 May 2008 (UTC)

Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "Hi Wikipedia admins - my account was blocked this morning, yet I am not a spammer. Our articles (Offwhyte/Galapagos4) were deleted yesterday, yet they had been on Wikipedia for years and many people had referenced them (search "offwhyte" on Google and the Wikipedia entry is #2 out of hundreds of search results pages). It is true that most of our contributions have involved the hip hop label Galapagos4, but both Offwhyte and the hip hop label Galapagos4 are legitimate entities whose names and works are trademarked, published, and recognized by the US Patent and Trademark Office. Offwhyte and Galapagos4 have made significant contributions to the hip hop music scene over the past 10 years, performing in every major metropolitan area in the U.S., Europe, and Japan. The label and its artists have fans and followers all over the world and have sold hundreds of thousands of CDs and records, and continue to sell their music through these and digital platforms. The label Galapagos4 and its artists are synonymous with Chicago hip hop and underground hip hop in many circles. Furthermore, there are many other bands listed on Wikipedia that are not as accredited as Galapagos4 and Offwhyte, both within our genre and outside our genre. Thank you."

Decline reason: "Under the confict of interest criteria, we all agree not write about ourselves or our own businesses. Since you decided not to stop when you were asked, there was nothing to do but block you. Since you don't appear interested in editing articles other than those about your own business, which you won't be allowed to continue doing, there's no reason to unblock. — FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:35, 23 May 2008 (UTC)"

Request reason: "Hi - when and what exactly was I asked to stop? I have addressed this matter in good faith. Those articles were and are referenced by many people. If more sources are needed, they can be acquired and listed. There has been no malicious intent, nor was I ever warned of improper conduct as you suggested. I have been very rational about this entire matter and would like to be unblocked. More than likely, someone else will try and add to the Galapagos4 article and replace the Offwhyte article. I would also like to start a deletion review of the Offwhyte article. Thank you."

Decline reason: "Your reply below indicates that you still do not understand that Wikipedia is not the place to be writing about oneself, especially exclusively so. Because the block has not obviously been made in error, I will not overturn it. —  Sandstein  20:28, 23 May 2008 (UTC)"

[edit] Question

Now that you have carefully read the conflict of interest guidelines and the notability criteria, how would you edit differently if unblocked, in order to better meet the requirements of those guidelines? -FisherQueen (talk · contribs) 18:47, 23 May 2008 (UTC)

Hi - I will list reliable sources for any asserted fact that I make. I will not undo suggested article merges by Wikipedia admins. Earlier this week, a Wikipedia admin suggested that I merge an Offwhyte album page with the Offwhyte artist page. I undid that suggestion, but only because I was trying to add more information to the album page. Now both pages have been deleted. I believe that is not right because there are many other artists listed on Wikipedia that are not as accredited as Offwhyte and Galapagos4.
However I do believe the Offwhyte page had conformed to your standards because it did reference a few very reliable sources - Village Voice magazine, Urb magazine, and BBC Radio 1. Thank you.
