My status as of 31 January 2008: I forgot how much I missed this place.
Hello, my name is Amanda. I'm 23. I'm currently living in Florida but I plan to be back to Philly at some point. :) I'm a pharmacy technician and am working on getting into pharmacy school. I edit whatever articles I'm reading (a huge range), but besides that, I'm mostly around in drug- and pharmacy-related pages, and correcting typos/misspellings.
I'm not stupid but I seem to embarrass myself (on Wikipedia and everywhere else) quite a lot... :P
I've had an account since December 2004 (and made a few anonymous edits before then), but I wasn't really around Wikipedia till May 2006. I seem to be firmly planted here now though. :)
[edit] What I generally do on Wikipedia
- read about stuff I'm interested in, and correct typos, grammar, etc.
- use AWB to search for typos/misspellings, and participate a little in bug reporting and the RETF typo list
- keep up with my watchlist (I try to keep it around 150 articles), revert vandalism, and weigh in on discussions
I've also done a bit of translation to and from Spanish (so far I'm most proud of es:Elliott Smith and La Buena Vida), and from time to time I find an article I feel capable of doing major revisions to.
I'd like to start cleaning up Wikipedia:Requested articles (fixing names of red links for future articles, removing articles that have been created, and finding ones that have been created but don't have redirects from the requested names).
[edit] What I generally don't do on Wikipedia
- AfD and other administrative processes, unless one sneaks up on me and requires my help (too much conflict)
- copyright stuff (too much complication)
- major writing (I like to think I do know how to write, but I much prefer being an editor... I lack creativity, among other things)
[edit] Wikipedia philosophy
As time goes on, I'm becoming more and more deletionist. Mergism particularly confuses me: instead of deleting unencyclopedic content, we make it harder to find?
I have objections to the Wikipedia:Username policy and the "deleting comments" facet of Wikipedia:No personal attacks, both of which (especially the latter) I see as censorship and rewriting history, even if they don't apply to article namespace.
