Galsi is a town, police station and Community Development Block in the sadar subdivision of Bardhaman District in West Bengal, India.

Galsi is located in the laterite plains between Damodar River and Ajay River. [1] Grand Trunk Road runs through the town.

Gaalsi CD Block had a population of 1,33,977 in 2001. [2]

In 2006 and 2001 assembly elections, Mehbub Mondal of AIFB won the Galsi assembly seat defeating his nearest rivals Anil Kumar Saha of BJP and Ajijul Haque Mondal of INC respectively. In 1996 and 1991, Idrish Mondal of Forward Block defeated Syed Imdad Ali and Champak (both of INC) respectively. In 1987, 1982 and 1977, Deb Ranjan Sen of Forward Block defeated Ajit Bandopadhyay, Himanshu Baran Roy and Nirmalendu Koner (all of INC) repectively. [3]
Aswini Roy of CPI(M) won the seat in 1972. [4]. Anil Roy of CPI(M) won it in 1971. [5] Phakir Chandra Roy (Independent) won it in 1969 and 1967. [6] [7] Kanai Lal Das of INC won it in 1962. [8] In 1957 and 1952, Galsi was a constituency with two seats. In 1957, Phakir Chandra Roy (Independent) and Pramathanath Dhibar of FBM won the seats. [9] In independent India’s first election in 1951, Mahitosh Saha and Jadabendra Nath Panja, both of INC, won the seats. [10]
Galsi is part of Durgapur (Lok Sabha constituency). [11]

Galsi is one of the areas of Bardhaman district which is affected by arsenic contamination of ground water. [12]
