Galileo Magnet High School

Galileo Magnet High School opened in September 2002 in Danville Public School's District. The rigorous curriculum prepare students with the essential knowledge to be successful in a technology based 21st century. By working directly with recognized leaders in technology like NASA at Langley Research Center and Virginia Tech, Galileo offers a unique curriculum to stimulate and challenge each student. Galileo offers three strands of study for students to choose from. A thematic-based curriculum is provided in Advanced Communications and Networking Technology, Air and Space Technology, and Biotechnology.
Galileo utilized three key partnerships to develop the curriculum for each field. Aside from the chief school partnerships, assistance is found from the Institute for Advanced Learning and Research and other area leaders in technology.
Galileo is an International Baccalaureate world school. A site visit by IBO administration was completed in the spring of 2004. Final authorization was announced in July. A second site visit by the IBO administration is set for April 4, 2008.
