Gala is referred to as an "international cult dance artist" because of her minimalist black garb and her innovation in music (blending the driving dance beats of the nineties with pop rock song-writing) Gala wrote and composed the album Come into My Life containing the hits: Freed from Desire, Let a Boy Cry and Come into My Life. She was awarded Best Female Artists of the year at the COFA Awards (Celebration of Female Artists) in the UK and Best Italian Artist in the World in 1998. With its signature "hummed" refrain, Freed from Desire created a long lasting trend among other artist’s releases in the following years. The song was awarded Platinum and Diamond records and Best Dance Video at the MOBO awards in the UK. "Freed From Desire" was her biggest hit, topping the U.S. Dance chart and reaching #2 in the UK pop charts.
"Since splitting with her former label at the height of her popularity, Gala has worked on sculpting her own vision of her sound. She has explored music writ large, and grown as an artist by working with various producers and musicians in London and New York. ‘I risked it all to follow the music’ says the songstress. Gala has been refocusing her energies on the craft and form of song-writing. It is here that Gala distances herself from the pack. Since settling in the cultural cauldron that is New York’s Greenwich Village 14 years ago, Gala has, in many ways, found herself anew. From the start, the European native has always sought out diverse sounds and dances for sources of inspiration. And it is in this sense that New York’s tradition of street music and clubs, offering everything from jazz to hip-hop to rock music, has been the perfect catalyst for her new work and approach to music. ‘New York is a very important to me’ she says, explaining her evolution over the years. ‘The melting pot is a symbol for who I am. I feel a citizen of the world.’ As Virginia Woolf said ‘I am a woman, and this is what defines me more than country.’ The evolution is a subtle one. As always, her music and performances are rooted in pop tradition, and continue to focus on her strong flowing vocals and melodies. Whilst working on her own projects through the last years, she has also branched out, writing the lyrics to one of French composer Charles Gounods operas, a testament to her diversity as an artist." written by David Critchell.
As per her My space news, Gala is touring all over the world from China to Europe and is working on a new album written and produced in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. Her new single Tough Love and its video are in the making under her own independent label.

[edit] Trademarks
Gala has a distinct unique voice. Her lyrics deal with different subjects, (personal evolution from childhood to adulthood, materialism, gender roles, social rights, having the courage to be oneself), in a philosophical way.
