This is... the Work In Progress page. Where I keep my article drafts so I can get to 'em from any computer. Most articles here don't exsist yet; it's just nice to have them on Wikipedia so I can make sure my markup is right and stuff. I mean, it's better than being in Notepad or TextWrangler. Or emacs.

[edit] Black Hole Army
The Black Hole Army is a fictional army in the Advance Wars series of video games: Advance Wars, Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, and Advance Wars: Dual Strike. The group of Commanding officers (COs) that fill the ranks of Black Hole are the main antagonists of these three games. Over the course of the Advance Wars games, they launch several (eventually unsuccesfull) attacks against the nations Orange Star, Blue Moon, Green Earth, and Yellow Commet.
[edit] Background
Template:Spoiler-about
In the original Advance Wars, Black Hole occupied a small piece of territory in Cosmo Land. Black Hole's sole CO, Sturm, used stolen Orange Star troops and weaponry to start a conflict between the other nations. This was in an effort to weaken them, in order to invade the four nations and take over Cosmo Land. However, Green Earth CO Sonja discovers Black Hole's involvement in the war, and the nations combine strength to defeat Sturm and his army.
However, he resurfaces (with a new look) in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising, accompanied by four new COs. With an army of his own, he attempts to simply invade all four nations at once. However, by the end of the game's Campaign mode he finds himeself cornered. Sturm meets his demise at the end of Black Hole Rising, when he is killed by one of his own COs, Hawke.
In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Black Hole is under the control of a new CO, Von Bolt. Von Bolt is accompanied by Hawke, from the previous game, along with three new COs: Jugger, Koal, and Kindle. As the Allied Nations progress through Omega Land (which has become a desolate wasteland) twords Black Hole's new headquarters, they encounter more and more Black Hole forces and technology.
The army's original motives were presumed to be the same as before: conquest of Omega Land. However, they soon discovered Black Obelisks, large pyramid-like structures that were draining life forces out of Omega Land. The Allied Nations eventually discover that Von Bolt was attempting to acheive immortality by draining Omega Land to power his life support system.
Template:Endspoiler
In Advance Wars, Black Hole units were simply black palette swapped Orange Star units. In the two subsequent games however, the units take on their own unique look; the Inantry appear to be aliens, and all of the vehicles have a very futuristic look. Also, none of the land vehicles have visible wheels (it's implied that they hover, or have an alternate method of movement). None of the vehicles appear to be manned, as no visible infantry is in or around any of them. This may be because Black Hole units are remote controlled, or just that the vehicle operators are well concealed.
[edit] Technology
Throughout Advance Wars, the Allied Nations have come into contact with many powerful machines and weaponry designed by Black Hole. Many missions in the two later Advance Wars games introduce new Black Hole weaponry into the game. However, much of this technology is discovered by the Allied Nations and is then available to the player.
[edit] Units
[edit] Neotank
The Neotank is a large tank first introduced in Advance Wars 2: Black Hole Rising. In BHR, the Neotank is the most powerful land unit in the game. The hull of the tank is a large sphere with a cannon in front. It has four metal legs with allow it to maneuver, although its movement type in the games state it operates on treads (like the other tanks). Despite its size, speed is not an issue for it as it moves faster than a Medium Tank (the next step down in terms of power) and as fast as a standard tank. It's primary weapon is a large cannon (called the New cannon in BHR, and the Neocannon in Dual Strike) which can be used against land units and sea units (if they can be reached). The Neotank's secondary weapon is a machine gun that does great damage against infantry (and also helicopters, with little damage).
[edit] Black Boat
The Black Boat is among the new Black Hole units introduced in Advance Wars: Dual Strike. It is a small boat with large mechanical arms; it lacks weapons, but can repair adjacent units (about one hit point per repair) and transport two Infantry or Mech Infantry units at a time. Repairs can be done on sea, air, or seaside land units; it costs several hundred G (the games' currency) to repair units.
[edit] Oozium
Ooziums are gelatenous beings created by Black Hole, first seen in Advance Wars: Dual Strike. They move very slowly at only one space a turn, but can destroy any unit in one attack. However, it cannot counterattack; thus, the safest way to destroy one is by attacking in on all four sides to destroy it in one turn. Ooziums are never available to the player in Dual Strike's Campaign mode, but once discovered they can be used in custom maps (as predeployed units, not as buildable ones).
[edit] Black Bomb
Black Bombs are unmanned missiles designed to be remotely detonated. They fuction like normal air units, although they run out of fuel fairy quickly. When they explode, any unit within a three square radius takes damage.
[edit] Structures
[edit] Black Cannon
Black cannons are large cannons used exclusively by Black Hole as a form of defense. The cannon can fire directly in front of it; its range of fire increases in a spread pattern (which is very large, extending almost ten squares out and fifteen squares sideways). The only way to disable a cannon is by attacking it in the very front; this leaves the attacking unit vulnerable to a counterattack by the cannon. Black Cannons can be used by Black Hole to defend an objective; their large range of fire allows them to cover a lot of ground. A smaller version of the Black cannon called the minicannon exsists. Its firing range is a similar triangle shape, like its larger counterparts. Minicannons, unlike Black cannons, can be attacked from all sides.
[edit] Black Arc fortress
The Arc Fortress is a large flying fortress seen several times in Dual Strike. In the missions where it exsists, it can only be attacked by Fighter planes and Bomber planes. However, enemy fighters are always nearby to defend it. It can be destroyed by attacking four points on its corners. Nearby minicannons also assist in defending the Fortress. The Arc is usually seen defending a ground-based objective; the Fortress is equipped with bombs that can be dropped on a set point on the map (these bombs, however, were specifically engineered not to harm Black Hole units). Thus, the Fortress must first be destroyed before invading units can pass a certain point.
[edit] Black Obelisk
Template:Spoiler-about In Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Black Obelisks were designed by the Black Hole Army's new leader, Von Bolt. They drain energy from Omega Land to feed his life support system, which would allow him to live forever. In Dual Strike there are numerous Black Obelisks which must be destroyed by the Allied Nations. Affected areas in Omega Land take on a desert-like appearence: mountains turn to rocky structures, trees turn into cactuses, and water is lava (although this doesn't affect naval units in any way). [edit] Black Crystal
Black Crystals are large crystals. At the start of every Black Hole turn, the crystals heal units within a two square radius. However, they can be destroyed to prevent them from helping enemy units (the crystal can not heal itself).
