Gairsen or Gairsain (Hindi: गैरसैण ; IPA: [ɡɛ:rsɛ:ɳ]) is a village in central Uttarakhand, India which is being mooted as the state's future capital. The site was chosen in 1994 by the supporters of the Uttarakhand separate state movement due to its central location close to the border of the Garhwal and Kumaon regions. The provisional capital of Uttarakhand has been Dehradun, the largest city in the region, since the state's inception in 2000.
