Gahcho Kué is Dene for "Gathering Place of the Big Rabbits". (Gah=Rabbit or Hare; Cho=Big or Grand; Kué=Place or Home).[citation needed]
The Gahcho Kué Diamond Project is located on the Canadian tundra in the Northwest Territories. It is situated at Kennady Lake (63º30'N 109º30'W), in the Akaitcho Treaty 8 Territory AK claim block, which is 80 km southeast of the Snap Lake Diamond Mine Project and approximately 300 km northeast of Yellowknife.
Gahcho Kué Diamond Project is a joint-venture between Mountain Province Diamonds and DeBeers Canada Inc.[citation needed]
The Project consists of three primary kimberlite pipes that lie underneath Kennady Lake. There are also several unexplored kimberlite occurrences scattered over several kilometers.
Gahcho Kué is expected to produce three million carats (600 kg) per year. It has potential to become a high-grade and long-life diamond mine.[citation needed]
