[edit] Gabriel Vivas Pineda

Gabssnake is the nickname or screen name used over the Internet by the Colombian Graphic Designer and Web Developer Gabriel Vivas Pineda; the word was presumably made up by him as a sum of snake and gabs, and used since 1998 over several free Internet based services and communities. Until now, no clear meaning has been declared, and the word exists only as a reference to the author himself; however, the specific decision of including the word snake is an evident reference to the Serpent (symbolism), although no further specification is made. As of January 2008, a search on Google will return only references to the author's collaborations in Websites such as Typophyle, Apple Support Forums, DeviantArt, Flickr, YouTube, several Web and computing related forums, and the author's Website.

A website was released in 2000 holding the name "gabssnake", and since then three newer versions were released with the same title. The content of these sites was mainly a profile, personal gallery, blog, and latter personal exploration site. The last version of the site was released in 2006 [1], and holds news, gallery, and works created by the designer.

[edit] Collaborations and interests

Gabssnake's collaborations have been present in diverse forums and communities spread over the Internet, in fields such as Web design, theory and practice of typography and general design and computing.

Special contributions have been made in the Typophile's glossary wiki [2] and various threads in the forums based on the author's collaboration in a study group in the University of Bogotá Jorge Tadeo Lozano, which investigates terminology and concepts used to understand and describe typography.

The author plans future contributions to the Wikipedia in the fields of Typography, the clearing of actual content and translation into the Spanish version of Wikipedia.
