Gabriel Udenze
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Gabriel Udenze was a fictional character on the Irish soap opera Fair City.
Gabriel was originally from Nigeria but had been living in London. He decided to move to Ireland to make a new start for his family, as he was worried his son, Joshua, would become involved in gangs there. At first things went well and they took over the lease of the Bazaar from Bela. It wasn't long though before things went terribly wrong. Joshua was intimidated by two racists, Pete Flanagan and Morgan Dalton, who were determined to make life a misery for Gabriel's family. Joshua was constantly being bullied by Pete and Morgan and soon they decided to take matters further. On night finding Joshua alone on the street they threw him onto the ground and sprayed urine on top of him. Joshua was forced to clean their shoes and say that he was nothing.
After this humiliation, Joshua decided to fight back literally. He saw Pete's car outside McCoys and ran a key along the paintwork. Pete and Morgan then set the Udenze's van on fire in retaliation, but that wasn't enough for them. They threw lighted papers into the Undenze's new house, not realising that Gabriel was asleep inside having just varnished the floors. The house went up like a firecracker. Gabriel died of smoke-inhalation as Pete and Morgan laughed. They were soon arrested though and are now in prison, but Nina Udenze, Gabriel's wife, had enough of life in Ireland, and returned to England. (She has since returned to Carrigstown for the trial of Gabriel's killers. It has not been revealed yet if she will be staying on, or returning to England after the trial.) However, Joshua still runs the Bazaar and is determined to see his father's dream of a future in Ireland through to the bitter end.
