Gabe Knight

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Gabriel Knight, usually referred to simply as Gabe on his shows, is an English radio DJ and online media personality. Originally born and raised on the Channel Island of Guernsey, he moved to the UK mainland in mid 2005 and now makes his home in the county of Devon.

Gabe has been involved in broadcasting in one form or another for approximately ten years. He began his career in hospital radio before moving into online broadcasting in the late '90s. In late 1998 he founded G/24 Internet Radio, a 24/7 internet radio station run by a group of young hobbyists and volunteers. The station ran successfully for approximately four years, and was the first of its kind on Guernsey. A highlight of the station's run was their ongoing "Byte.Me" appeal, which took old computers from businesses and refurbished them for distribution to under-privileged families in the area. In mid 2002, G/24 Internet Radio closed its doors due to mounting financial concerns and controversy surrounding copyright issues with streaming media.

[edit] StraticsCast

In November, 2005, Gabe resurfaced as the host of StraticsCast, a weekly podcast from online gaming network, Stratics. Since taking over, Gabe has reinvented the format of the cast, which now boasts an average of between 2,500 and 5,000 downloads per week (according to figures from Stratics), and is currently syndicated on two major online radio stations. The show's format includes On This Day In Gaming, the Gaming News, and the track of the week - usually a rock track by an unknown artist. The show also includes general Stratics network news and dates of upcoming House of Commons, the network's flagship IRC conferences with developers of leading online games.

[edit] The Gabriel Knight Show

In June, 2006, Gabe hosted The Gabriel Knight Show on Culm Valley FM during that station's 28-day pilot license. Broadcast each Thursday between 20:00 and 22:00, the show specialized in playing unknown/unsigned rock acts from all over the world. Guests on the show included local bands and people involved in community projects.

In September, 2006, the show resurfaced on The Bay 107FM based in Exmouth. The show's format was unchanged and, again, focussed on up and coming rock acts from the local area and around the world. This time, however, the show was broadcast on Saturdays between 12:00 and 14:00.

Since May, 2007, The Gabriel Knight Show has been found exclusively on Split Infinity Radio, an online radio station devoted to online gaming.
