[edit] Username block (later lifted)

Your account with this username has been blocked indefinitely because the username may be rude or inflammatory, unnecessarily long/confusing, too similar to an existing user, contains the name of an organization or website, contains the word Wikipedia or the name of any other Wikimedia Foundation project, or is otherwise inappropriate (see our blocking and username policies for more information).

You are encouraged to create a new account and contribute to Wikipedia under a more appropriate username. Wikipedia:Username policy provides guidance on selecting an appropriate username. You may also edit Wikipedia without creating an account.

You are not allowed to edit Wikipedia under an inappropriate username. If you would like to discuss the block, you may appeal on your talk page or email the administrator who blocked you. Due to Wikipedia's mechanism for enforcing name changes, your IP address may be temporarily blocked. Unless you have also been engaging in vandalism or impersonation of another user, we will remove that block as soon as possible.

If you want to keep the contributions from your old account for your new username, please follow these directions:

  1. Add {{unblock-un|your new username here}} to your user talk page. This is possible because even when you are blocked, you can still edit your own talk page.
  2. At an administrator's discretion, you may be unblocked.
  3. You will have 24 hours after the unblock to file a request on Wikipedia:Changing username before you may be re-blocked. Note that this can only be done before you create the new one. For more information, please visit Wikipedia:Changing username. In many cases (especially if your account has few or no edits), it is a lot easier to create a new account.--soum (0_o) 20:26, 4 May 2007 (UTC)
Sorry for not specifying whats wrong with your username. When you use leetspeak in your username, it becomes very difficult to manually link to your userpages. The sequence whether a character is represented by a letter or a number appears to be very random and thus very difficult to remember the proper sequence. Please change it to something that is simpler.
I have this page on my userlist. You can respond here and I will know. --soum (0_o) 04:28, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Why the hell was this username blocked? There is nothing wrong with it, using "leetspeak" is not a crime. RFerreira 05:59, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Leetspeak is not against policy. I've unblocked. --Carnildo 06:30, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
I endorse this unblock. I came here to do it myself but Carnildo had beaten me to it. Soumyasch, this is what I was going to say to you: "I don't understand what the problem is with "G0dz1lluh" and I don't see how this block is supported in policy. What you say about it being difficult to manually link to userpages may be true, but the Username policy only says this about leet usernames: "Wikipedia does not allow usernames that are misleading, harassing, or offensive - both in English and in other languages, as well as misspellings and substitutions thereof such as through Leetspeak." So it would seem to me that non-offensive, non-misleading and non-harassing usernames in Leet are allowed. Also, when SUL is introduced, we're going to have to accept usernames that may appear random and may be "difficult to manually link to". This user has appealed to the unblock list to be unblocked and all admins on that list agree that the name is not a violation of policy, therefore, I am going to unblock him." Thanks Carnildo for unblocking. Sarah 06:36, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Hopefully we did not lose a valuable contributor due to the carelessness of one person. Next time this should be brought up to WP:AN first, before blocking. Or, reluctantly, Wikipedia:Requests for comment/User names. RFerreira 06:43, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
The user emailed unblock-en-l asking for the block to be reviewed. I have emailed him back to tell him he has been unblocked per unanimous agreement that his username is okay and to apologise for the inconvenience. From the sound of his email, he is genuine and sincere, but rather frustrated at the situation. And so, I, too, hope that we have not lost a new contributor. I think it's important to remember, though, that the admin was acting with the best of intentions. Sarah 07:00, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
He should feel extra welcome when he returns and see's he's been given two welcome messages, top and bottom. :) LOL Sarah 07:03, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
