G-town Radio

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

G-town Radio is a 24 hour internet radio station broadcasting from the Germantown section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (USA).

This station is unique from most internet radio stations because it positions itself as a community internet radio station serving Germantown, Northwest Philadelphia and the entire city of Philadelphia. Local residents program the station with news, music and cultural content not found in local, corporately controlled media outlets.

Due to the crowded radio dial in Philadelphia and high cost of entry creating a terrestrial radio station is not a viable option. Philadelphia is one of the first cities in the world attempting to build a city-wide wireless internet network. This project coupled with new consumer products that play internet radio over wi-fi create new opportunities for people to listen to internet radio like terrestrial radio (AM / FM). G-town Radio hopes to utilize these new advances to reach local residents as well as listeners around the world and provide a window into local media created by the people.
