Günther Herbig

Günther Herbig (born November 30, 1931) is a German conductor.

Herbig was born in Ústí nad Labem, Czechoslovakia (Czech Republic), and later studied conducting with Hermann Abendroth, Hermann Scherchen and Herbert von Karajan. After operatic jobs in Erfurt and Potsdam, he held principal conductor positions with the Dresden Philharmonic and the Konzerthausorchester Berlin. In 1984 he emigrated to the United States. Since then he has worked with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, the Columbus Symphony Orchestra and the Toronto Symphony Orchestra.
