Gülse Birsel

Gülse Birsel (born March 11, 1971) (née Şener) is a Turkish comedian, writer, scenarist and actress.

She was born to Gültekin and Semiha Şener in 1971 in Cihangir, Istanbul. She attended Beyoğlu Anadolu High school and got a degree in economics at Boğaziçi University. She started working for Aktüel magazine as a correspondent in her second year as an undergraduate. Finally, she graduated from Boğaziçi University as an economist and Aktüel magazine as an editor in 1994. She went to New York and studied for a master's degree in the film program of Columbia University's School of the Arts.
She married Murat Birsel in August 1999.
She was first noticed through her articles in Turkish newspapers, titled "Metropol Manzaraları" (Views of a Metropolis, "Metropolis" is actually Istanbul), with her easily noticed funny touches of city life. She later presented a comedy show named "G.A.G.". Currently she is the lead actress and scenarist of the sitcom Avrupa Yakası.
Gülse Birsel has published three books: Gayet Ciddiyim(2003), Hala Ciddiyim (2004) and Yolculuk Nereye Hemşerim (2005), and she writes weekly for Sabah.
