Gökhan Gönül (born January 4, 1985 in Bafra, Samsun, Turkey) is a professional football player currently playing for Turkish champions Fenerbahçe.
Gökhan is a young Turkish right fullback, who with his great pace has a strong tendency to get forward in aid of his team's attack. In July 2007, he was bought by Fenerbahçe from Gençlerbirliği, who had him loaned to their satellite club Gençlerbirliği OFTAS where he played a starring role in their promotion to the Turkcell Super League, and signed 4 year contract [1].
He made his international debut against Norway on 17 November 2007. [2]
He has also been ranked as 14th among the best 15 fullbacks in Europe, by Kristian Borrel - GOAL Magazine Feb/2008.
In April 2008 Zico labelled him Turkish Cafu to UEFA Magazine.Gökhan Gönül is known for his precise passes, assists and his ability to get past defenders. Clubs like Real Madrid, Inter, A.C. Milan, Liverpool F.C., Chelsea, Arsenal, Manchester United, Newcastle United and Tottenham Hotspur have shown interest in Gökhan Gönül.[citation needed]
