Talk:Gérard Souzay

I have removed two points added on 11 Dec 2006, pending the identification of published evidence to support them. (a) "Souzay's first recording with Baldwin (b. 1931) accompanying, however, had been made when the noted American pianist was 19 and evidently singer and pianist had know each other previous to that." This appears to conflict with other published evidence, and needs further elucidation. (b) Category "Gay musicians"; evidence needed. Lampernist 21:25, 3 January 2007 (UTC)
- When Decca re-isssued some of Souzay's early-LP Fauré and Duparc recordings on CD in the 80s, mostly accompanied by Jacqueline Bonneau, I was surprised to see that one of them—just one—was accompanied by the 19-year-old Baldwin. I too had thought that they had met later. I will get the exact data. As for their personal association, it has been mentioned in magazine articles in International Classical Record , Fanfare, etc. It is hardly the kind of thing that can be "documented" to satisfy the likes of you, but it is certainly known to admirers of the great baritone. Neither Souzay nor Baldwin were ever unmarried—not that that is the kind of "evidence' that would change anything.
