[edit] French

Note about the French language being dead in the Linguistics section, when it's written, I was just watching A Fishful of Dollars, and there was a building that was called "Le Spa".

It could be Spanish..? --- Missvain 23:58, 14 June 2006 UTC
Possibly, but I doubt it... --LorianTC 06:25, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
I did a few translation checks (even though it's obviously the spa, but just because my foreign language skills aren't the best) and it could be...Italian! My Spanish translation meant "him spa," doh! Hehe. Missvain 16:31, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
This is most likely a continuity error, though it in itself isn't notable enough to be in the article. Jtrost (T | C | #) 18:06, 15 June 2006 (UTC)
More significant than 'Le Spa' is Bender speaking French while impersonating Napolean in Insane in the Mainframe, perhaps it could be mentioned that "Though French is shown in multiple episodes to be a dead language it is still occasionally used by some characters", or something... Stardust8212 02:50, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
This is what I think might be the case, maybe it is some sort of nostalgic remembrance? --WillMak050389 15:26, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

To my mind, the entire question of whether French is a dead language seems largely irrelevant to the encyclopedia entry. Especially in light of the fact that there are more examples of French being used than being referred to as "dead". If we're using the implication to say that French people no longer exist (which is to say, Wikipedia's definition of dead language), it doesn't have to do with linguistics so much as the state of Earth (if, indeed, it matters enough to include it). But, mainly, I don't see how we can use two episodes to "prove" that French is a dead language in the future, but then cite three examples of exceptions. It seems like an extremely questionable "fact" (or, rather, a "fact" which is really a joke). When people look into linguistics of Futurama, it seems to me that they're mainly interested in the alien languages which were specifically created for the television show and are unique to it, not a few throwaway jokes which may or may not be canon but are never major plot points. [edit] Characters image

Does anyone know what episode that image is from? Or if it's even from an episode? The source information isn't given so it will be deleted in a few days... --Lorian 07:24, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

I believe that image came from the episode 'When Aliens Attack', just before the Omicronians blew up the White House... Nic tan33 11:05, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Great thanks, I will look into that. If it is I will get my hands on the DVD and take a new shot. --Lorian 11:06, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
I see the source has been added to this page but I believe it also needs to be added to the actual image file so it is not deleted again, not sure how to go about doing that though. Stardust8212 12:50, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
The source information is supposed to be something like "TV screenshot" or "DVD rip", just stating the episode it's from isn't good enough. That's why it needs to be retaken. --LorianTC 13:11, 20 June 2006 (UTC)
So how does one do what Stardust suggests? I am not exactly a lawyer/expert in such matters with regards to all the regulations governing images...or perhaps we can use the previous image of the cast? Nic tan33 05:51, 22 June 2006 (UTC)
Somebody needs to retake the screenshot. --LorianTC 07:17, 22 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] DVD movies

In the DVD movies section it says about an article from The Onion, but The Onion is a parody newspaper, wouldn't that make the news false?

That interview is from The Onion A.V. Club, which reports real news. Jtrost (T | C | #) 11:43, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Oh Ok, I think that should be noted in the article. --Lorian 11:45, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
I have previously added the interview from The Onion A.V. Club to the DVD movie section, pls edit if needed. Nic tan33 14:03, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
On a different note, would it be a good idea to mention major revival rumors/news on the background (2003-present) section? Nic tan33 06:46, 21 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Awards citations

I restored the original citations for the awards section per the style found on Wikipedia:Footnotes. I also removed the headers for the wins and nominations sections for two reasons: first, citing a header causes formatting problems, and it saves room on the crowded TOC. Plus the <big> tag makes the text look exactly like an h3 header. Jtrost (T | C | #) 11:42, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Background

Lets use this to dump research before we write it up into the article. Be sure to cite sources.

[edit] Prior to 1999

Information about how production began.
PETER ROTH, president of Fox Entertainment: I was delighted a couple of months ago, when Matt told me that he had finally -- after three years of begging -- that he would finally do another series for our network. And so it gives me great pleasure to introduce to you the man responsible for "The Simpsons," the man who is responsible for one of our most exciting new prospects for the future of "Futurama." Mr. Matt Groening.
GROENING: I just want to say -- the three years of begging were begging by Peter Roth. Not me begging him. Do I stand here or I sit? I sit, okay. Am I talking or -- I'm just answering questions? Or, or what?
I've been looking around and it's difficult to find information about how production began. Jtrost (T | C | #) 19:23, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
Yeah same, guess it will be a pretty short section... --Lorian 19:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] 1999 - 2003

How Fox picked it up, ratings, and an overview of how the show was received by fans and critics.

[edit] 2003 - present

Why the series was cancelled, and where the show has been popularly syndicated after Fox cancelled it.

[edit] Awards

I want to add the winner or nominated episode name for each year, of each award (Emmy, Annie...)

Something like this:
Emmy Awards:

Or like this:
Emmy Awards:

Or, would that be to long for the main page? Other suggestions? What do you people think? --javoec 21:53, 15 June 2006 (UTC)

Go for it! I have no objections whatsoever to your suggestion, since it would just be simply be adding the names of the winning episodes/writers to the awards. Try out both fonts and see how it turns out. It would be nice for readers to be able to see which episode won which award. Nic tan33 06:48, 16 June 2006 (UTC)
Use the small font though, use span style instead of small, the small tag is deprecated. Use &mdash; aswell, instead of hypens. Quotes should be used around episode names as well, see Wikipedia:Manual of Style (titles):
<span style="font-size: x-small;">YYYY &mdash; "[[Episode name]]"</span>
Actually, get rid of that, it's not needed on the main page. If we want to get this to FA, there should be as few lists as possible. ....(Complain)(Let us to it pell-mell) 07:05, 19 June 2006 (UTC)
I agree, it looks very clittered now. --LorianTC 17:59, 19 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Opening template dablink changed to Otheruses4

I just changed Template:dablink to Template:Otheruses4, with slightly different wording. It's a minor change, but I'm making a note of it here just in case someone has a problem with it. ♠ SG →Talk 04:25, 26 July 2006 (UTC)

[edit] One page

How about we merge the two Futurama pages together?--Salvax 21:34, 2 August 2006 (UTC)

I think someone already transfered all of this to the other article...shouldn't this sub page just be deleted at this point? Stardust8212 23:37, 2 August 2006 (UTC)
I would think so...--Salvax 00:19, 3 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Why is this still here?

We got rid of the article (well, moved it) but we still have a talk page. I can understand preserving the conversation but is there a way to merge just the talk pages (I have no idea how the merging thing works) I wouldn't think it would be a problem... Stardust8212 17:08, 22 August 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Question

I was wondering why this page was deleted/moved, was there a discussion about merging/moving it, or did someone just do it? I thought this article was being used to make a better version of Futurama, but it was deleted/moved before completion. Anyone have any link to a discussion about it? --WillMak050389 23:48, 22 August 2006 (UTC)
