[edit] Blatant racism on Wiki

I've initiated a complaint procedure against a Wiki member who's been stalking me around the pages of the website for some months now. I'd be interested in reading on the following page what your reactions are to the information provided and the ensuing discussion. Thanks. Peace 2 u.

deeceevoice 12:54, 25 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Hey, Freddy. :-) Thanks for weighing in on the above matter. (Are you really furious?) :-p deeceevoice 19:45, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Lord, Freddy, you don't have to say anything about Mondays! About your comment re the situation w/Wareware. Yeah, it's pretty disgusting. I can't imagine how I would feel if I were sensitive about such things/took such insults personally. I'd probably leave and never return. As it is, it just makes me think he's human excrement -- something to be scraped off the heel of Wikipedia for good. Mental toughness: 's a beautiful thang. Knowing who you are? Priceless.  :-) deeceevoice 19:54, 29 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Johnny Cochran

I ran into this problem with the article on Eddie Murphy. I simply argued successfully why his ethnicity should be included. I visited Johnny Cochran and saw at a glance that the article had been extensively edited, and "African-American" removed again. I reinserted it with a note that it Cochran's ethnicity was relevant because it influenced the kinds of cases he took and had a bearing on the controversy surrounding the Simpson trial. I'll watch the page from now on and see what happens. In fact, I'll check the talk page to see if it's been brought up there and add my two cents. Yes, sometimes Wikipedia really pisses me off. I had a run-in with some half-baked egocentric earlier today -- arrogant and stubborn and wrong as all get-out, talkin' about how his African-American "friends" object to being referred to as "blacks" (Gawd!) and taking offense to my comments when none was implied or intended. (Hell, when I intend to offend somebody, there's no grey area! :p) Just dealing with some white folks' hang-ups -- even in cyberspace -- is often more than I have patience for. deeceevoice 22:47, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Neo/Nu soul

No, problem. AFAIK, any logged-in user can move any page unless the target destination has a history other than a redirect to the article being moved. Tuf-Kat 23:01, Mar 30, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Afrophobia

This article has been VfD'd -- put up for "Votes for Deletion." I am among those who think it should be saved. Please drop by the page Afrophobia, take a look at talk:Afrophobia and then visit: [1] to weigh in. Thanks. Peace 2 u. :D deeceevoice 23:00, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for voting to keep it. :-) deeceevoice 23:12, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for your vote on afrophobia Freddy. If you have the time look at the articles on negrophobia, colorphobia, and pigmentocracy also.--Nazikiwe 00:56, 5 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Coppell High School

This has also been VfD'd. If you have a moment to spare, would you mind reviewing the article in progress for Coppell High School? Your comments and suggestions are welcome. (P.S. why the change of screen names?) --GRider\talk 23:22, 30 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Comments from Anon user @ 81.158.48.79

(Note to this person: you need a talk page (and therefore an account) so that I can reply to you directly).

Hey FuriousFreddy Sorry 2 hear about your racist stalker. don't make it worry you. People who are racist are suffering from there own low self esteem and anger. Anger is a negative thing (if your really furious you've already felt consequences) so don't even bother react to a racists actions - just keep on doing your thang. I've been searching wilkipedia with some interest, but as of yet lack confidence to produce own article. What do you think about the link betweeen black oppresssion, gangs and hip-hop???? I personally resent the portrayal of black people in the media and music world, but I don't get mad. If you hate something you need to change something.

I don't have a racist stalker; it just seems a lot (not most or many, just a lot) of Wikipedians in general are wither (a) closet racists, (b) uninformed about racial politics, or (c) just plain insensitive. This site needs healthy contributions from people of all ethnicitites, and, when talking about African-American related subject matter, most definitely African-Americans. --FuriousFreddy 14:47, 31 Mar 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Impact (band)

Sorry about that - I'm on a bit of an anti-vandalism trip today and got a bit over-enthusiastic (must remember "More haste, fewer speedy deletions" or something...). I was going to put in the other redirects for you to say sorry but you'd already done it - clearly too organized for me! SteveW 17:59, 4 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Sly Stone

Re: my original stub -- when I started working on music stuff, there were no articles at all on Marvin Gaye, Aretha Franklin or Ray Charles!, so I was focused on filling some badly needed holes and took a few shortcuts... Great work on the Family Stone article! I'll try and take a closer look at it tonight or tomorrow. Tuf-Kat 20:34, Apr 4, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] "Gimme some cornbread an' buttuhmilk, pleeze!

Naw, I ain't hongry. :-p That was the name of one of Sly's band's first instrumentals while he was still a deejay at K-SOL in the summer of '63 and folks would call him up on-air to make requests: "Hello. Slah, ah'd like tuh dedduhcayt." (Great times in the Bay Area way back in the day. :-p) Hey, Furious, visually, the article looks great. Love the photos and graphics. And it's interesting -- but it needs a little editorial attention. I think it's the second paragraph that discusses the constitution of the group. It's a little confusing -- run-on sentence 'n' all. You also state later on that someone was "forcefully" ejected from the group. I think you mean "forcibly." Do you mean they actually picked his butt up and hauled him outta the place/off the stage? Because that's the way it reads. Or, was he simply forced out of the group? I didn't read the entire thing -- I'm working on deadlines right now. But a good once over editorially wouldn't hurt. Also, watch the overuse of semicolons to connect two sentences instead of using a period to separate the two thoughts. The semicolon should be done only if the second thought is an immediate consequence or follow-on of the first. Will return to it when I have a little more time and weigh in on featured article status. Good luck with it. (I saw the featured article The Supremes the other day. The photo with the afros was da bomb. I figured you probably had something to do with that. If so, congrats. Peace 2 u. deeceevoice 21:56, 3 Apr 2005 (UTC)

No, actually I was born in Louisiana and grew up in the Midwest, but I had/have relatives out that way and spent some time in Cali in the summer of '63. Samoan street gangs in Frisco -- wild stuff. Almost as wild as that mess with Sly's band. Dang! Sounds like Jerry Springer stuff. I don't know, though. You might consider adding it. It's an interesting aspect of the band's group dynamics. But I wouldn't include it without some information on the nature of the dispute that led to it. (Just more ego/testosterone?)

Anyway, as usual, great job. :)

FYI, I hijacked the Supremes album cover photo and replaced one of Angela Davis for Afro. Them some ba-aad 'fros. :) deeceevoice 07:12, 6 Apr 2005 (UTC)

I wanna know the name of a song with a lyric from "Early in the Monring" (i.e. song that references Early in the Morning". Read the comment on the article's talk page, so you can find a possible song like that. --SuperDude 22:22, 21 Apr 2005 (UTC)

[edit] I'll Be There

Hey Freddy, what's up? To your question asked on the I'll Be There (Mariah Carey song) deletion page, yes, I'll Be There is one of Mariah's hit singles. It was a big hit for her when it came out, and today it ranks among one of her more succesful and well known singles. It has appeared on her Greatest Hits album, and even her album of #1 singles, #1's. She also sings it often on tour. If Mariah had just sang I'll Be There, and it wasn't released, I'd agree with you on merging, but it has been released as a single, and took on a life of its own, and I believe merging would bring down the quality of both articles. We're also doing a wikiproject, not on *Every* song (as some people like to believe), but on all her singles. If the two articles are merged, it would really ruin the flow of the project. Thanks for your time. OmegaWikipedia 06:42, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Yeah, I've seen the compound box thing. I don't think that's exactly a bad thing, but the articles do seem relatively sparse and that's good for it, and works with those singles. The single structure we've adopted for the Mariah articles are a bit different though (with the info about the charts and remix, etc), and I really think they would mesh. And we do have about 50 or so articles for her singles, and I'd hate to have some of them be inconsistent in structure because they had some stuff about other versions in them.

Seeing as this isn't official policy yet, and I've explained the circumstances, would you mind letting the articles stand on their own? There are already references being made referring each article to each other. And we have had a case in the past, where another cover version by Mariah, was put on the deletion page, with many suggestions to merge, but in the end, the two articles were allowed to co-exist. I hope I'm not coming off too forward, I would just hate to have these two articles merged, when I believe in this case, they can stand on their own. And I believe we are trying to work to elevate Mariah's status, and as for the Single Boxes, that wasn't my decision, but the decision of someone helping me with the project. [edit] Our Gang

Hi, Freddy, I'm all done copyediting now, hope I didn't edit conflict you! The History looks a little scary. :-( Bishonen | talk 19:28, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

Glad to see this back on FAC. I voted; hope it makes it this time. Is it my imagination or were there unusually critical objections to this article? Oh, well, they *have* resulted in improvement, so all's well that...oh, whatever! Quill 03:34, 29 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Thanks

Thanks for understanding, Freddy. Seeing as how you started the deletion page, can you remove it, or does it have to go through the whole process? I'm a bit worried as some posters here seem to have a really biased opinion against these articles and have been trying to alter them negatively a few times. Anyway, if you have the power to do it, I'd appreciate it, thanks again. OmegaWikipedia 20:58, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Poor Petie

Thanks! :) --FuriousFreddy 21:12, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

One question, though. I noticed you commented this out:
and many of the kids who watched the shorts never realized that many of them had been made almost a quarter century beforehand...
...is there a way we can attribute this, as there are scores of people who think The Little Rascals were made in the 1950s for television, my mother being one of them....and wait, why delete Petie from the main cast list?--FuriousFreddy 21:30, 28 May 2005 (UTC)
Freddy, because it was described not as the main cast list but a list of child actors—a dog isn't a child actor. That's the only reason. I was sorry to take out Pete, maybe the list could be redefined instead?
Yeah, I commented it out rather than delete it because I was hoping it could be attributed. I don't really see how, though. I bet your mom wouldn't appreciate it if you put her phone number in the references section for people to check with her...! I suppose Maltin and Bann don't make the claim? --Bishonen | talk 22:57, 28 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Our Gang - congrats on an excellent article

I understand you were a major contributor to that article. I'd just like to say, thanks for a great article. It was very informative and interesting! Not to mention well researched. :-) Ta bu shi da yu 07:52, 30 May 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Bugs

Hi FuriousFreddy. I agree that the Bugs page should redirect to Bug (disambiguation) rather than Bugs Bunny or VW Beetle! I'm curious about someone typing in Bugs for the British TV programme though. If I typed in Bugs and was redirected to Bug it would suggest there's no article about it... --Sp82 07:41, 31 May 2005 (UTC)

Thanks Furious! --Sp82 17:24, 31 May 2005 (UTC)
Regarding your message, I think Bugs links to the correct page at the moment already. --Sp82 17:15, 1 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] lots of edits, not an admin

Hi - I made a list of users who've been around long enough to have made lots of edits but aren't admins. If you're at all interested in becoming an admin, can you please add an '*' immediately before your name in this list? I've suggested folks nominating someone might want to puruse this list. Thanks. -- Rick Block (talk) 22:56, Jun 11, 2005 (UTC)

I've annotated you entry on this list based on your recent decline of the nomination, i.e. you're currently listed without a '*'. If this is not actually accurate, please correct it. -- Rick Block (talk) 03:59, Jun 26, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] He-eeey!

Long time no talk. Just thought I'd drop by and give my regards. I've seen your tracks here and there on the site, so I figure you're back to feeling like your old self again. If so, that's good. :) Lately, I've mostly been spending time dealing w/"them people" on Afrocentrism, but it looks like it's basically died down to mostly grumblings on the discussion page (finally). They a trip. Anyway, peace. U b in touch, B Touch. Keep up your great work. deeceevoice 15:28, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Disputes in hip-hop (beef)

As beef (music) is up for deletion, I was thinking of starting an article expanding the material from hip hop on beefs, and I'm looking for collaborators who might know about famous beefs from the nineties and beyond. I'd happily start the article and write about notable eighties beefs.

I think this might make a good topic, as it might be a useful resource to help people understand the importance of beefs between artists. That is, unless it just sparks off a 2pac versus Biggie revert war :)illWill 20:54, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Thanks for the link, that's a great article there - I'm amazed that I managed to miss it. Sometimes I'm a bit lazy scanning older articles, but it's great to be surprised by a huge entry on such an interesting subject. There's a few little things I might add there when I've got time, but it's such a good entry that i don't think it needs any major work. illWill 23:36, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Lingiardi et al.

Well, that was, uh, pretty tiresome. Guess that's one dead horse by now... Anyway, as you may have noticed, I think we've got it settled now -- if you want to put your bit back in, I think it's gonna be okay. (It really shouldn't have been such an issue in the first place, but oh well.) -- Captain Disdain 22:32, 20 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Duh! Sorry, I just realized my mistake -- I kinda thought Haiduc's stuff was your stuff. My bad. Guess we're even now, as far as cases of mistaken identity goes... =) -- Captain Disdain 16:31, 21 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Can you intergrated this into Captain Marvel?

I was wondering if you could find a way to integrate this trivia into the Captain Marvel article you've done so much work on. It's not obvious to me where in the article it would fit, without interupting the 'flow'.

Fawcett Publications' founder was nicknamed Captain Billy, which may have inspired the names Billy Batson and Captain Marvel. Fawcett's ealiest magazine was titled Whiz Bang, which likely inspired the title Whiz Comics. ike9898 18:49, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] adminship and a favor

I'm about to take a wikivacation. Would you do me a favor and put music of Yemen on your watchlist? There's an anon (talk - contributions) that has been insistently adding presumably copyrighted material. He's been warned three times, so if it happens again, you can leave a note at the Administrator's Noticeboard and someone will probably block him. On the other hand, I'm nominating you for adminship, so maybe you'll be able to block him yourself. You'll need to accept or reject the nomination at Wikipedia:Requests for adminship/FuriousFreddy. Tuf-Kat 23:03, Jun 22, 2005 (UTC)

I noticed that on Tuf-Kat's page you said that you had accepted the nom, but on the WP:RFA it appears that you have not yet accepted. Just thought you should know. Guettarda 04:45, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] It's Not That Deep

You need to calm down. You're acting way too dramatic about this. How is my formatting inconsistent? Because I list the single formats differently than you? The way they list it on that page is not even how you list it. If I created a Mariah Carey project page would that calm you down? For a song like I'll Be There, the sections can be small, yes, while as for other singles, the info on music videos and remixes can be big, so to maintain consistentcy thats where Im coming from.

I'm erronously creditng singles on which Mariah credits on as her own singles? First of all, someone else helped create the tables in the first place, so that is not something that I even noticed when editing. As I didn't even put that heading, if I had known, I would had corrected it. I didn't go out maliciously like you accused me of to make sure that Mariah got credit and the others didn't.

No, this doesn't "essentialy boil down to is the prevention of allowing anyone besides me and the other Carey fan Wikipedian from making any substantial edits to these articles." This situation is not out of hand. That is not the case at all, so please stop trying to make it something that it's not.

Tons of people edit these articles. I don't really care. I edited back the article you edited because you pratically did a major revamp of the whole article that I thought lost base with the consistency of these articles. I know you make single articles too. If I were to majorly revamp your articles, would you just sit back and accept my edits? I'd think you'd like to have a say in how you think it should be like it.

There are other collections of single articles out there for artists like Britney Spears, The Beatles, Ashlee Simpson, etc. Each of them is different in their own ways, different from mine, different from yours. And that's the same case with these articles. One shouldn't edit all articles just because it doesn't appeal to their personal style. OmegaWikipedia 21:57, 23 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Reply to Reply 1

You keep saying I list things differently from the official project page. What exactly is that different? We have the infobox, we have the chronology too. I am definitely trying to keep things consistent too and also looked at other articles before I even started writing them. Like you said, every set of articles will be slightly different, just as you added the sections of stuff on the b-sides and the credits, while these articles do have sections on the charts and the remixes. But besides that, these articles are all fairly consistent.

Oh, I definitely am very open to suggestions. I know the articles are from being done or complete. I think there's definitely been some misunderstanding on both sides going on here. There are some things that I think could be switched around a bit maybe, but at the same time, I do want to keep things easy to read, and not consolidate all sections up. [edit] From superheroes to super cool

Hey, Furious. :) I'm finally to the point with cool (aesthetic) where I'm satisfied enough with it to let it go for a while. (I still want to do something about cool and "bad nigguhs" and all that implies vis-a-vis pop culture appropriations, but I have no idea when I'll get around to it.) But I come to you in search of a photo. I need a photo of "cool." And that, of course, means someone BLACK. (Contrary to the ridiculous suggestions proffered by some on the article's talk page. You should read that thing. It's a trip in and of itself.) I'm thinkin' Miles, or Monk -- but whoever it is, they have to be wearing a mean pair of shades. Got any ideas? Thanx. Peace. deeceevoice 09:05, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Found an album cover w/Miles in shades -- but, of course, the quality is crappy when enlarged. If you've got anything better, please let me know. Thanks again. deeceevoice 09:39, 10 July 2005 (UTC)

Someone, in their stubborn ignorance, has nominated Cool (aesthetic) for deletion, alleging its contents are "original research" -- which the article most definitely is not. They never even bothered to raise the issue on the talk page. Such arrogance! Care to peruse the article and weigh in? Peace. deeceevoice 01:27, 13 July 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Something of interest?

I'm involved in an edit tug-of-war on Watermelon. Someone has inserted an ugly color rendering of a mammy-type black woman eating a huge, honking slice of watermelon by way of illustrating stereotypical notions of blacks and watermelons. I think it's completely unnecessary -- and unnecessarily offensive. Please read the comments on the discussion page Talk: Watermelon and, if the spirit moves, delete the offending pic. Much appreciated. deeceevoice 01:25, 13 July 2005 (UTC)
