CLONING PANDAS???Italic text
Gradually, we’re moving into a world constructed by science and technology. We are all quickly morphing into an existence that is shaped and driven by the powerful developments in techno science. In this global context, science is no longer an interpretation of nature, but has rather become an active force in changing nature and its belongings. Pandas as we all know are an animal of mystery, an animal well appreciated for its lovable and admirable qualities. However, it is also an animal that is in desperate need of immediate attention. This universally loved symbol of China is under the threat of facing extinction. But, even under such circumstances, is it acceptable to clone pandas?
The cloning method has arisen as one of China’s desperate attempt to save Panda’s. Cloning is only capable of delivering temporary result. It can continue the specie but, cannot reduce the chances of pandas becoming extinct. The pandas are currently facing threats in many ways; therefore the method of cloning in this situation seems impractical. In order to reduce the chances of their extinction, the bigger problem needs to be solved- the reason for their extinction, rather than using a scientific method which can only produce more pandas and not provide any help. Cloning is useless and cannot help in saving panda’s because it’s only capable of copying an already existing animal. The main reason for the panda’s extinction is the destruction of their food sources. Pandas have inefficient digestive systems and need to eat at least ten hours a day. With such a recommended intake and the constant destruction and inappropriate usage of natural trees and forests, panda’s are slowly running out of food to eat and places to stay. The panda’s habitats are being destroyed and demolished on constant bases, causing the pandas to be troubled and distressed. Though there are still 1000 panda’s alive today, it’s obvious that the only pandas to make it to the distant future would be locked away in captivity, and a life of captivity isn’t the best solution for pandas. The extinction of Panda’s is a disturbing reality which cannot be distorted by the help of cloning. The panda’s have a very diminutive population and as a result of this, they are nearing extinction. Scientists are expecting that they can increase the Panda population using cloning to genetically give birth to pandas. They have already tried using a cat to give birth to a panda, but they soon discovered that the cat had died. Scientists constantly have to turn to other species for surrogate mothers because they have found that pandas have difficulty carrying a young child. However, because the Panda population has low numbers, the individuals possess minimal genetic variation. In this case, it is essential to avoid further losses of diversity. When a species is about to become extinct, there’s a lack of diversity within them which cannot be returned by cloning. Cloning is wrong, no matter what the reason. Instead of simply relying on technology, we should concern ourselves with the preservation of the panda’s habitat because cloning does not address the real issue. Cloning cannot solve any of the problems faced by the panda’s. Cloning is an ethical issue, and its experimentation should be kept to a minimum. Even science and technology have not yet understood cloning enough to save an entire species. The panda’s current endangered situation is due to human interference and our lack of respect towards their habitat. By working together to conserve their habitat, we can ensure that panda’s get the best opportunity to continue on their own, without our intervention with the species.
