I think this is important to be added to the article but someone said it isn't a cultural reference.

"Matt Groening stated that in The Simpsons Movie there was supposed to be a joke where Homer was supposed to say "Now Marge, he has to get over his fear of coffins sometime. I think the exploding laptop/notebook refers to the happenings a couple of months ago with the Notebook Batteries from Sony, in which they caused potential danger.

It wasn't a reference, it was a mention. We don't put mentions in cultural references sections, just lengthy parodies and songs. Just because this happens to be Wikipedia, it doesn't make it any more notable. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 18:12, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

Nearly half of the references on the page now are not "lengthy parodies or songs." Is this standard about "mentions" versus "references" spelled out somewhere so I can look at it, when was consensus reached about this? -- Diletante (talk) 18:24, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

WP:NOR and WP:RS go against cultural references sections. We try to meet the guideline halway by limiting these sections to about 5 or 6 of the more major ones. As well, there is no source. The sections usually end up being huge masses of speculation and NN stuff, so we try to head it off early be limiting the number used after the first airing. Once more, for the people that either haven't seen the episode or haven't seen the JFK funeral: this is the link you follow President John F. Kennedy for the pic of the son of JFK saluting his fathers coffin. And now if you have seen the episode you will realize that JFK Jr. and Mr. Teeny are wearing the same blue dress with 4 buttons (a better image is here http://www.unctv.org/pressroom/jfk/images/AMEX3yearoldJFKjrSalutes.jpg ) and are both saluting the coffin. "It needs a proper source." what a joke is that - this is the most obvious cultural reference in the entire episode! so in it goes and in it stays. --noclador 21:20, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

If you think proper sourcing is a joke, then you need to read up on policy. I suggest reading WP:RS first, then WP:NOR. By the way, we normally do not note 2 second jokes, no matter how obvious they may seem. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 21:25, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

This section contains a list of trivia. Please help improve this article by verifying the information, and integrating it into the article if an appropriate section exists

• The adverts skipped by Lisa are the 'Mr Sparkle' advert from In Marge We Trust,the 'Funzo' advert from Grift of the Magi, Homer's 'Springshields' ad from Papa's Got a Brand New Badge, the diary advert from The Dad Who Knew Too Little and the Duff advert from Old Yeller Belly.

As per WP Trivia 'guidance' i've replaced the trivia section into the article for now; it is interesting and suitable infomation comparable to relevance and scope to 'Cultural References'; furthermore it is clearly sourced and verified via the episode links themselves. This sort of information should stay for such episodes (explicitly as Trivia) until it can be included in a better way or the grand debate on Wikipedia trivia actually comes up with a solution! --Jw2034 23:35, 21 December 2007 (GMT)

The stuff really doesn't belong. It is simply cruft, with no real world context. The guideline doesn't suggest the mass removal of trivia, but it also tries to stop the addition of trivia. -- Scorpion⁰⁴²² 23:45, 21 December 2007 (UTC)

True, it is probably cruft, but even as a casual viewer I was intrigued at what was actually flicked through. I wouldnt agree that real world context is a requirement - references back to an earlier work of fiction in a book series for example may be explicitly necesary in some cases. Unfortunately, the aims of the trivia guideline doesnt fit the practice in most cases(ie - if it says trivia, kill it!). Will leave a triv section out for now. --Jw2034 00:03, 21 December 2007 (GMT)

I was watching the episode, and right before Sideshow Bob says something about Bart tormenting people whilst in court, while his father is on the stand, it cuts to the people in the audience and Sideshow Bobs father appears in the audience too, despite the fact he's at the witness stand. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.49.206.38 (talk) 01:50, 17 March 2008 (UTC)
