[edit] Fulton Street Improvement Association

The Fulton Mall Improvement Association website[2] says: "The Fulton Mall Improvement Association works to ignite the economic, cultural and commercial revitalization of Fulton Street Mall. Our goal is to establish the district as a destination and brand in historic downtown Brooklyn; increase merchant sales via marketing and promotion; enrich retail diversity through capital improvements; and deliver a safe, clean, vibrant place to shop, work, live, and visit."

This is probably the only pre-planned (somewhat dedicated) busway in New York City, as for the mall's length, only buses, commercial vehicles, local truck deliveries, and emergency vehicles are allowed to use the street. The other is the Park Row tunnel in Lower Manhattan, where only buses and residents of the Chatham Gardens housing complex are allowed due to security concerns.

Twelve train lines and fifteen bus lines service the Fulton Street Mall area, and Fulton Street Mall has more customers than Madison Avenue. Supposedly, the Fulton Street Mall area is New York City's 3rd largest commercial center and is one of New York City's densest transit hubs, second only to Times Square.
