Fuhua Secondary School is a secondary school in Jurong West, Singapore. It started in 2000 and the founding principal was Ong Kian Choon. Oen Siew Yock took over as principal in 2005 when Ong was transferred to Nan Chiau High School. The Vice Principal is Phor Hoay Guan.

Fuhua Secondary School has a twinning programme with Tai Chung Experimental School in China.

[edit] Awards/Achievements

Despite a relatively short history compared to other established schools, Fuhua has won numerous awards since its inception. The school is known for its robotics team, Fubotics. Students has gone on to South Korea representing Singapore in a robotics meet in 2003. Many of its performing arts groups clinched an Singapore Youth Festival (SYF) Silver award in the second time they took part in the SYF competition.

Chinese Dance attained a Gold award in SYF 2007. Their item is called "Blooming of the River Reeds". It is an improvement from the previous SYF competition in 2005 where they clinched a Silver award.

Fuhua's NCC (Land) Unit have also achieved outstanding performance in the Best Unit Competition 2004/05. They have clinched the Gold award for the year 2005. Fuhua NCC Land (West) started in the year 2000 have been gradually improving, from a simple Bronze to a Gold Unit and is still maintaining the gold unit standard. Fuhua NCC Land Unit have achieved the overall 2nd best unit in the whole nation for 2005/2006, it was an amazing feat considering the short history of the unit. And for the following year of 2007, Fuhua NCC Land Unit achieved National Best Unit(Overall 1st Best Unit).

Fuhua's Scout units (Tsunami Sea Scouts), both the Scout and Venture sections, have secured Silver Award for their respective Frank Cooper Sands' Award (equivalent to the Best Unit Award) for the year 2005. The Scout section is awarded the FCS awards for the 4th consecutive years since 2002 while it's the 3rd straight times for the venture section. In the year 2005, the Tsunami scouts managed to clinch the Bronze award in the prestigious biennal National Patrol Camp (NPC), a competition camp in which the different scout units in Singapore will pit against each others in areas testing scouting skills. In year 2006, the Tsunami scouts clinched the championship in the Jurong District Pioneering Competition. In addition, Tsunami scouts had been actively participating in the SYF opening ceremonies (in year 2002, 2004, 2006) and NDP (in year 2003, 2005, 2006) since 2002, being part of the marching contingent representing the Singapore Scout Association.

Fuhua's NPCC Unit have clinched a Silver Award for the year 2005. An improvement from the previous, clinching a bronze in 2004.

Every year, the NCC would organise its annual shooting competition. For the year 2004, a team comprising of 5 shooters from then Part C (Sec 3) have shot their way to being the 1st in the West District and 6th in the national. For the year 2005, the shooters have achieved 4th in the nation and Part A Jia Hao ranked 4th in the individual IMT shoot.

In 2006, the school clinched Joint Winner for the inaugural National Weather Study Project 2006 organised by Senoko Power Limited with their winning entry: "How Clean is Our Air" and was given a chance to travel to Brisbane Australia as an educational tour More Information.

On July 13, 2007, its students were featured on ChannelNewsAsia Primetime News at 9PM as part of the "Saving Gaia" movement when one of its students submitted his views on the environment and Live Eath concert. More Information.

The Programing Club have gotten two bronze awards(Individual) for the National Olympiad in Infomatic and a merit award for National Software Competition(Algorithm section) in 2006. In 2007 January 13, Programming Club members managed to won 2 silver in National Olympiad in Infomatic, putting us third after RI and Hwa Chong Institution.

Concerning Life Science, on March 2, 2007, the school has been awarded 2nd Runner-Up for the 6th Anglo-Chinese School (Independent) Life Science Symposium Competition. The team created an animation based on the theme "Frontiers of Science" and the judges were inspired by the animation "Do You Experience Hair Loss?" More Information.

It is an all-white uniform. White represents purity. There are shoulder lapels on the shirt/blouse. It is secured by metal epaulettes. The shirt/blouse has chest pockets and metal epaulettes are also placed on the pockets. Upper Secondary male students wear long pants instead.

Its attire for physical education (PE) compromises of a red attire. The school crest is placed on the left chest. The word "Fuhua" spreads from the right to the left at the front. At the back of the PE T-shirt, "Fuhua Secondary" is slightly curved and spans from the left to the right.

The school blazer is bright red in colour. Students have to wear their tie with the blazer. The tie is blue in colour with yellow diagonal stripes. The word "fuhua" is placed on top of these stripes.

A drama was filmed in 2005. Called Subject to Change, it was directed by Jason Ye. There was another film, a documentary on cosplay. This documentary won the Silver award, an improvement compared to the documentry filmed in 2004 titled 'Pets for Life', which achieved a merit award.

The school holds its speech day every year in March or April. In 2006, the school held its Speech Day in the morning, unlike the previous year, which held its Speech Day in evening. This was because the school had organised its bi-annual cultural night.

In 2006, Fuhua started aesthetics education lessons.

The school has an air rifle range and an aesthetics room, where NCC Cadets can practice drumming. The aesthetics room was officially opened on 31 March 2006 by the school's Advisory Committee Member, Mr Yip Mein Hui. The opening coincided with the school's Speech Day. The school also has a soccer field in which the Singapore Sports Council makes use of by hosting inter-school matches on the field. And a band room for the military band.
