[edit] Welcome to Wikipedia!

Hello Fschoenm, welcome to Wikipedia!

Here are some tips:

If you feel a change is needed, feel free to make it yourself! Wikipedia is a wiki, so anyone (yourself included) can edit any article by following the Edit this page link. Wikipedia convention is to be bold and not be afraid of making mistakes. If you're not sure how editing works, have a look at How to edit a page, or try out the Sandbox to test your editing skills.

If, for some reason, you are unable to fix a problem yourself, feel free to ask someone else to do it. Wikipedia has a vibrant community of contributors who have a wide range of skills and specialties, and many of them would be glad to help. As well as the wiki community pages there are IRC Channels, where you are more than welcome to ask for assistance.

If you have any questions, feel free to ask me on my talk page. Thanks, User:Alphax/sig 00:11, Mar 10, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] SmackBot and Dame Judy

Thanks. Fixed. This was an underused piece of code to fix repeated templates. Rich Farmbrough, 17:08 2 January 2008 (GMT).

Hi, which PDF file are you referring to? I have temporarily removed mention of it. --Jtir (talk) 17:20, 11 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] George Clooney

I see what happened there now, and noticed that I edited the wrong area for Larson originally. You should not make one massive batch of edits and call them all "style changes" though, when they are not just "style changes" but other edits too. It seems sneaky to me what you did now that I look at it but you probably know that already. Burrito wrapper (talk) 18:15, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

My edit summary may not have been the most detailed, but why would you edit an old revision of the article in the first place, without checking the intermediate changes? ;) --fschoenm (talk) 18:21, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry, my mistake from lack of sleep. Burrito wrapper (talk) 18:22, 26 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] VPI.Net?

This article is about the company that promotes the brand names of other companies. Web developers are often interested in knowing which companies develop for what companies, e.g., that VPI.Net develops for Dr. Phil (a branding that isn't always going to appear on the client's site). I think this deserves entry into an encyclopedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Applyeager (talkcontribs) 17:36, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

If you think it belong here, refer to WP:COMPANY to assert and verify it's notability. --fschoenm (talk) 17:40, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Arthur D. Cooble

I am honoured by your want to make Wikipedia a trustworthy reference and I am very thankful for your anti-vandilism efforts. However, you have flagged an accurate article regarding Arthur D. Cooble. As an ancestor of Minister Cooble, I wish to uphold his legacy but am finding it very difficult to aquire refrences due to his relative obscurity. Please give me time to find legal sources which I can put into the article. Thank you for your time. —Preceding unsigned comment added by MrPlow09 (talkcontribs) 21:02, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] MrPlow09 socks

YOu might want to join in the discussion here, since you flagged FrEaK40 (talk · contribs) as a possible sock. Blueboy96 16:34, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

Hm, what should I do? FrEaK40 (talk · contribs) was the one who created one of the two Cooble articles and uploaded the two pictures, which were used to illustrate them. --fschoenm (talk) 16:52, 2 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Edits to Andrey Livadny

No other bibliography gives such dust-jacket style descriptions of the book contents. The author is very obsucre, with no Google hits in English. I stand by my original nomination. --Wtshymanski (talk) 21:31, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

Style of an article is not a criterion for speedy deletion. If you don't like the article, put a cleanup tag on it or put it to WP:AFD but don't re-list it for speedy deletion if someone disagrees with your opinion. --fschoenm (talk) 23:00, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
AFD it is, then. A lot of owrk to delete something, but worth-while. --Wtshymanski (talk) 23:12, 4 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Jodie Foster

I would appreciate it if you could explain how this is vandalism. Thanks.Wjhonson (talk) 21:45, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

It's probably not vandalism on its own but this user seems to come back regulary to make this kind of edits against the WP:MOS, even though most of those edits are reverted afterwards. See e.g. 201.245.216.200 (talk), 201.245.218.185 (talk), 201.245.217.103 (talk), 201.245.218.220 (talk). How would you consider that? --fschoenm (talk) 22:28, 9 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] kabel eins

Hi. I see you added the new logo. I was waiting for the German version to get sorted and added to Commons before adding it here. Images and the like are not my metier, so I'll leave that to you. Why I am writing is that there is a programme mentioned as "Cat's eye", which I have never heard of (neither as an English nor a German TV programme). The link unfortunately goes nowhere useful. I'm seriously thinking of deleting it. Grüße TINYMARK 22:23, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

Hi. The logo won't be added to commons because it is a copyrighted work and thus not allowed there. It is only allowed on some wikipedias as fair use, i.e. if it is explained why there can't be found a free equivalent (which is pretty obvious for logos). Regarding the link, I have also not heard of it before but I guess it should link to Cat's Eye (manga) and have corrected the article. --fschoenm (talk) 22:42, 13 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Rollback

You have been granted with the rollback permission on the basis of your recent effort on dealing with vandalism. The rollback is a revert tool which can lessens the strains that normal javascripts such as twinkle put on the Wikipedia servers. You will find that you will revert faster through the rollback than through the normal reversion tools such as javascripts and the undo feature, which means that you could save time especially when reverting very large articles such as the George W. Bush page. To use it, simply click the [rollback] (which should appear unbloded if you have twinkle installed) link on the lastest diff page which should appear beside the link to the user's contributions. The rollback link will also appear on the history page beside the edit summary of the lastest edit. For more information, you may refer to this page. Yamamoto Ichiro 会話 23:10, 16 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] My Apologies

I did not know how commas and periods were treated with quotes, and was only correcting them to how it is done normally in the English language, at least in the United States. Is this just a Wikipedia rule or is it also possibly a rule in other countries?

Ace Fool (talk) 05:34, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

The manual of style explains why it is done this way. See WP:PUNC. --fschoenm (talk) 10:49, 18 February 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Replaceable fair use Image:Paul Lewiston.jpg

Replaceable fair use

Thanks for uploading Image:Paul Lewiston.jpg. I noticed the description page specifies that the media is being used under a claim of fair use, but its use in Wikipedia articles fails our first non-free content criterion in that it illustrates a subject for which a freely licensed media could reasonably be found or created that provides substantially the same information. If you believe this media is not replaceable, please:

  1. Go to the media description page and edit it to add {{di-replaceable fair use disputed}}, without deleting the original replaceable fair use template.
  2. On the image discussion page, write the reason why this image is not replaceable at all.

Alternatively, you can also choose to replace this non-free media by finding freely licensed media of the same subject, requesting that the copyright holder release this (or similar) media under a free license, or by taking a picture of it yourself.

If you have uploaded other non-free media, consider checking that you have specified how these images fully satisfy our non-free content criteria. You can find a list of description pages you have edited by clicking on this link. Note that even if you follow steps 1 and 2 above, non-free media which could be replaced by freely licensed alternatives will be deleted 2 days after this notification (7 days if uploaded before 13 July 2006), per our non-free content policy. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you. Polly (Parrot) 21:41, 7 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Protection on Drew Barrymore

Hi. Maybe I've missed something. Can you tell me why removing the protection template doesn't help and why the article was protected in the first place? Greetings TINYMARK 16:39, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

I don't know why the article was protected. But the template is only in the article for informational purposes and removing it doesn't remove the block. If you want to unblock the article you'll have to let an administrator do it. --fschoenm (talk) 16:51, 16 March 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I wasn't aware of that! Grüße TINYMARK 16:54, 16 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] al pacino

hello. i replaced the changes i made, as all are provided for in wp:mos. i reduced the image size, because it is terrible out of focus, and a smaller image looks better. --emerson7 20:19, 25 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion on ALLAN NGUMUYA

Hi, Fschoenm, I just noticed that you tagged that article for speedy under A7. However, reading the article, it seemed that it did establish notability, stating that he had released four albums. A quick Google search also showed this. I am going to remove the speedy tag and try to improve the article, as well as put some tags on it. Hope you don't mind. Cheers, FusionMix 12:33, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

In my quick Web search, I found only one album called I've Got Hope. That's why I tagged it for speedy deletion. But feel free to improve the article if you can. I don't mind... :) --fschoenm (talk) 12:39, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Ok. I think the creators' statement of 'four albums released in the US' is a typo, as he said that about the ones released in Malawi. I'll go double-check that. Cheers, FusionMix 12:45, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Hendrie Stakes

Your Speedy Deletion to my George C. Hendrie Stakes REDIRECT PAGE was a Speedy Edit. Not a good idea when you in fact know absolutely nothing about Thoroughbred horse racing and are not a member of the Wikipedia:WikiProject Thoroughbred racing. I'm sure you are sincere, but blindly going about posting such notices is contrary to the whole idea of Wikipedia: the building of an online encyclopedia, not tearing one down. Slow down, do less, but with quality. That way you will help build a worthwile website without wasting other's valuable time. Thanx. Handicapper (talk) 13:35, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

I tagged it as {{db-redirnone}} because it was a redirect to a non-existent page. Perhaps you should create the article itself before you create a redirect to it? --fschoenm (talk) 13:38, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Speedy deletion

Regarding the page Now That's What I Call Music! 70, which you tagged for speedy deletion on the basis of it was previously deleted via a deletion discussion, is substantially identical to the deleted version, and any changes do not address the reasons for which the material was deleted, I wanted you to know that I have removed the speedy deletion tag. This page does not qualify for speedy deletion because no record can be found of the alleged deletion discussion by which this article was allegedly previously deleted. If you still want the page to be deleted, please use the WP:AFD process. Thanks!

If you have any queries about this message please reply on my talk page as I am not watching here. Stifle (talk) 14:09, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

See Wikipedia:Articles for deletion/Now That's What I Call Music! 70 (U.K. series) (2nd nomination) for one of the original AfD discussions. --fschoenm (talk) 14:11, 31 March 2008 (UTC)
Thank you. Now deleted. Stifle (talk) 14:13, 31 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Bio Assessments

Hi. I've noticed in the last 2-3 WP:WikiProject Actors and Filmmakers assessment updates that you've been adding and/or updating WPBiography templates on some actor articles. We have a small group who work on assessments for the project and generally assign the priority parameter of the template as a function of our workgroup, which sometimes encompasses some debate on our parts to come up with a proper priority assignment. We do appreciate your updates and have no problem whatsoever with adding templates and assessing the class parameter of these articles. However, we were wondering if you would mind leaving the priority parameter blank so that the article can come up on one of the unassessed category lists that we check weekly? It would make our jobs a bit easier. Thanks for your efforts on these biographies. Wildhartlivie (talk) 09:24, 3 April 2008 (UTC)

Sorry. I thought everyone was allowed to add/change the ratings of an article aside from the GA/FA and Top ratings. But I can leave the parameter blank if you wish. --fschoenm (talk) 09:38, 3 April 2008 (UTC)
Well, in theory, everyone is. That is more in regard to class ratings, since the priority rating may means something different depending on the project or work group involved. A good example of how priority differs is the rapper Eminem. While all projects may agree that his article class is a "start" or a "B", his priority rating is vastly different in the musician work group vs. the filmbio work group. He is a high priority as a musician, but mostly, no one is much concerned with his status to date as an actor. In the filmbio group, he's a mid priority at best. I guess the most salient point regarding priority is that it is a measure of which articles require the attention of the group or project in regard to making improvements and pushing it up in article quality assessment. In any case, I'm glad to see you've joined the project. Wildhartlivie (talk) 02:32, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
Thanks. I did most of my edits in these articles anyway, I just didn't bother to join the corresponding projects yet. --fschoenm (talk) 09:29, 4 April 2008 (UTC)
