Personal question
Dear froth, You mentioned some time back that it takes only 2.5 or so seconds after you login to your computer. I may be invading your privacy, (please delete this thread if you think so)but I wanted to know if your (windows) notebook is configured to automatically login or do you input your password/fingerprint each time? Just curious. --KushalClick me! write to me 18:32, 14 October 2007 (UTC)

I would like you to review this (small) edit [1] that I made on the article and give your input on it, if you have some time. --Kushalt 00:29, 15 October 2007 (UTC) I was afraid that it might be one of my idiosyncratic ideas. Whenever I see the word "now offers", "now with extra cheese", "now in a new pack", and so on, my mind starts thinking about public relations and marketing. I welcome your edit as it makes sense (and the word "currently" does not ring the same bell in my head as the word "now").
I hope I am not thinking protectively of my edits but do you think that using the word "currently" has a undertone that Google might lower the storage limit (which of course, as no one knows the future, might be true)? --Kushalt 00:51, 15 October 2007 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Making the bed
A tag has been placed on Making the bed, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia per CSD A1.
Under the criteria for speedy deletion, articles that do not meet basic Wikipedia criteria may be deleted at any time. Please see the guidelines for what is generally accepted as an appropriate article, and if you can indicate why the subject of this article is appropriate, you may contest the tagging. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the article and leave a note on the article's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself, but don't hesitate to add information to the article that would confirm its subject's notability under the guidelines.
If you think that this notice was placed here in error, you may contest the deletion. To do this, add {{hangon}}
on the top of the page (just below the existing speedy deletion or "db" tag) and leave a note on the page's talk page explaining your position. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag yourself. Dethme0w 05:03, 15 October 2007 (UTC)

Ref Desk navigation
Are you carrying out some sort of maintenance of this template (Wikipedia:Reference desk/header/nav) - it's become corrupted apparently as a result of your edits to the template (the links to other desks have all stopped working. I'm just wondering whether you're still currently working on it (in which case I don't want to rollback and cause an edit conflict) or are perhaps using a different browser which does support the links as you've set it up (I'm on FireFox). Laïka 23:11, 20 October 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. I like what you've done with the colour schemes - it's pretty clever and looks good. Laïka 11:06, 21 October 2007 (UTC)

rv's and re-rv's
For openers I'd never rv an rv that was so staunchly defended with that wall of prose or even for that matter, a less frothy response. So, you trickster you, it seems that you've devised a twisty maze of little passages that I'm unable to navigate so there's no chance of my rv'ing your rv of my rv - or am I missing something(?). - hydnjo talk 02:44, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- No no - I wasn't referring to WP:3RR at all. It seems that you've cloaked the RD header in some way that makes it difficult (impossible for me) to re-re-revert. Actually, I wasn't trying to rv your rv of my rv but only trying to find a linkable stable copy for the WT/RD discussion. Oh, and I figured that you're so young that you'd have no clue as to the Colossal Cave Adventure reference - apparently your knowledge base is broader than I expected, good for you. - hydnjo talk 03:32, 24 October 2007 (UTC)

Hi Froth, just a quick note that your name came up in a WP:AE noticeboard. Nothing against you, but I thought that you should probably want to know. Thanks for the laugh, I know you didn't meant it to be, but it was very funny to me. :) VartanM 03:49, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Could've been your authoritative voice. A good quality for an administrator. Let me know if you ever decide to become one. :) VartanM 04:17, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Froth, it does not matter if your an admin or not, it was just my assumption. But before posting message on my talk page, judging user boxes, it won't hurt to actually take a look at other pages and make similar recommendations. I don't put user boxes back to avoid conflicts, not because you're admin or not. But I believe the same fair editing practices should be applied to everyone. Thanks. Atabek 05:53, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Don't be ashamed Atabek, everyone makes false assumptions. Sometimes they turn out to be good. I'm sure Froth will make a good administrator one day. VartanM 06:58, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
Ref Desk Topic List
Hi Froth I'm just moving the discussion on the border issue from Wikipedia talk:Reference_desk#Clashing_Colors_Tabs_Straw_Poll to here since it's very messy there. For starters, why are they all little divs wrapped in tables? I think a <ul><li> structure would be more appropriate for this purpose wouldn't it? Maybe something like this (with Miscellaneous selected)?
- Computing desk
- Science desk
- Mathematics desk
- Humanities desk
- Language desk
- Entertainment desk
- Miscellaneous desk
- Archives
Doesn't involve tricky negative paddings and would be a lot tidier if the li styles can be put into CSS and called as a class. --antilivedT | C | G 05:41, 24 October 2007 (UTC)
- Here's a mock-up I've done, I couldn't figure out how to put colours on the tabs but otherwise I've converted the table based layout to a largely div based one (I still had to use tables for the 2 columns, couldn't use floats for some reason). I've updated the header template to remove the need for the little pesky 6px divs, and wrapped the see also links to my format above is well. There are quite a bit of useless code on the original, like why are there <nowiki> tags around colours? --antilivedT | C | G 05:58, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
-
- I've put the colours in using the code above (with modifications, cannot be bothered to work out all the template stuff...), the top border still protrudes the colour border, and the only way of fixing that is the set the border-bottom from the list item above instead, and since you're eating into its space the border will be covered by the background of the highlighted element, so basically there isn't really a way out of it that I can think of. Is the "eating into others' space" really required? Why not just make the padding a bit bigger instead? Also are all the link colours required, because the default link colours are blue anyway. I simply took out the width:100% to make it fit since it will automatically occupy the maximum amount of space in its parent, otherwise there's not much change involved. --antilivedT | C | G 07:52, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- PS: I have no problem seeing the red text in here. --antilivedT | C | G 09:23, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

Your userpage...
I was wondering...why don't you use User:One/Title and Template:Otheruses4 instead of Template:div, which is quite troublesome? -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 02:02, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
...no, I was thinking that instead of going through all the trouble adding divs, it might be much better if you used the templates already on Wikipedia. -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 02:11, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
Here's what: I'll replace some of the divs you made with the templates I mentioned. If you don't like my changes, do revert them as soon as possible. -- Altiris Helios Exeunt 02:28, 25 October 2007 (UTC)
speed problems
You haven't edited any of the main desks in 6 hours, so I'm not sure how you can say you haven't seen any problems.
Try editing the Science desk (the whole thing, not one section), make an inconsequential edit, then save. I bet you'll get a server error. —Steve Summit (talk) 03:27, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
C
Your "solution" to the exessive bloat you've brought upon the Reference Desk resulted in a whole load of Reference Desk questions being posted to the bottom of the C article because you forgot to fill in the name of a link. Please be more careful in future – Gurch 13:57, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
Re: Your edits to the header
Indeed, the template hierarchy does allow you an extraordinary degree of control over the template layout, but at the same time it brings the DB screeching to a halt each time it has to re-render it. I'll take a page that's a little trickier to maintain over one which loads in more than 30 seconds if at all any day. In a world of infinite computing power (or perhaps just a more efficient markup language), your design would of course be preferable, but we do not have such luxuries; indeed we seem to be so short of resources now that the Foundation have resorted to slapping a whopping header with video and stuff in it at the top of every page – Gurch 21:36, 26 October 2007 (UTC)
- Also I thought I'd fixed all the places where you'd put "C" instead of a link and thus directed users to post new messages to the bottom of the C article, but evidently I haven't, as they're still appearing there. Please deal with it. Thanks – Gurch 21:40, 26 October 2007 (UTC)

AT&T Map
Hi there. I edited Image:Lines and Metallic Circuit Connections, American Telephone and Telegraph Co, March 1, 1891.jpg to straighten it. The black outlines are wobbly, so I used the center vertical crease, which seems to have given a pretty good result all 'round. However, I don't have a Commons account, and have never previously had the need to upload something, so I doubt I need to bother to get me a commons account. Do you have one? If so, would you like to upload the straightened & cropped image? Your email link doesn't appear to be activated, so go ahead and email me if you've got a commons account and would like to upload the straightened image. Enuja (talk) 06:26, 27 November 2007 (UTC)

I don't really know whats up with this [4] but lets just say redirecting random pages to Hitler is frowned upon. --Hdt83 Chat 02:14, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
It's still vandalism, and I'm not sure it really achieves anything (unlike a lot of the stuff proposed for Project Chanology). All it does is annoy people, not inform them or make them think, and you knew it would be reverted pretty swiftly. Surely it would be more productive to work to make the various Scientology articles beautifully sourced and NPOV, demolishing them with truth? If you can also make them attractively written, people will read them through properly and absorb your wonderful facts.
Please don't vandalise the project when you could be achieving great things. Granted, they're harder work, but they're more effective and less destructive. Skittle (talk) 03:26, 24 January 2008 (UTC)
POTD notification
Hi Froth,
Just to let you know that the Featured Picture Image:Animation Sieve of Eratosth-2.gif is due to make an appearance as Picture of the Day on January 31, 2008. If you get a chance, you can check and improve the caption at Template:POTD/2008-01-31. howcheng {chat} 23:34, 25 January 2008 (UTC)
Can you tone it down?
Can you take your anti-whatever-you-don't-like screeds somewhere else? They're really not helpful on the ref desk. Surely you can see that comments like this don't help answer anyone's questions, and serve only to stir up drama. Friday (talk) 19:39, 2 February 2008 (UTC)
Wait, I use a Mac, and I find it funny. Kushalt 16:48, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Featured sounds
I noticed that you have participated in Wikipedia:Featured sound candidates in the past. There are now two candidates and the project appears to be abandoned. If you could look at the candidates and vote it would be appreciated. Zginder (talk) (Contrib) 00:30, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
new signature
Does your new signature show your smiling head and two hands and body and then two legs? Just wanted to make sure. Kushalt 16:47, 8 February 2008 (UTC)
Speedy deletion of Template:Lows
A tag has been placed on Template:Lows requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section T3 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because it is a deprecated or orphaned template. After seven days, if it is still unused and the speedy deletion tag has not been removed, the template will be deleted.
If the template is intended to be substituted, please feel free to remove the speedy deletion tag and please consider putting a note on the template's page indicating that it is substituted so as to avoid any future mistakes (<noinclude>{{tranclusionless}}</noinclude>).
Thanks. --MZMcBride (talk) 04:28, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Re: Template:Lows
Seems an alternative to that template would be not having one at all. Although, MediaWiki has a function to achieve exactly the same effect where THIS can become this. It isn't subject to CSS-compatible browsers, as well. Though, it's a magic word that probably doesn't need a wrapper, even though I think it has one somewhere.... --MZMcBride (talk) 05:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
Your comment at the Humanities Desk
Not sure what the relevance of it is as a reply to my comment about the practical details of stoning and the meaning of an eye for an eye in Jewish law. --Dweller (talk) 20:54, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
Recent edits on Wikipedia:Reference Desk/Science
I've noticed that many of your recent contributions on the Science Reference Desk were not beneficial and were generally misleading. Please try to understand that most people posting here are confused and seeking help, and your additions would likely only cause further confusion. Please try to contribute constructively. Hello, Froth. This message is being sent to inform you that there currently is a discussion at Wikipedia:Administrators' noticeboard/Incidents regarding an issue with which you may have been involved. (EhJJ)TALK 14:07, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Froth, please stay off the reference desk until such a time as you plan on giving useful answers. Get your lulz elsewhere, it's disruptive here. Friday (talk) 16:56, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
I too would like to echo this call. Froth, you were/are an extremely competent editor, and this reputation is being somewhat tarnished by giving somewhat "informal" answers to requests where you've edited. I'm sure you, as much as ourselves, would encourage you to return to your former state where your editing (although as much appreciated as now) is much more user-friendly. I understand en.wp can sometimes get you (as it does to many, me included) down, and "lulz" are funny too, however permanent sillyness is not what can get community discussion to go down. This is probably the rationale behind the recent ANI post regarding the behaviour of this account. Happy Editing. :) Regards, Rudget. 17:58, 23 February 2008 (UTC)
Hi
Would you consider registering an email address? I wanted to send you a message. --Dweller (talk) 12:11, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
- Erk. It seems there's a gremlin. System thinks there isn't one. Alternatively, you could mail me and I'll reply. Cheers. --Dweller (talk) 13:49, 25 February 2008 (UTC)
Holycrap!
You said something favorable about OS X. Color me shocked. :) Friday (talk) 18:46, 27 February 2008 (UTC)
Missing image Image:Earth-satellite-seasons.gif
Hello, this is a message from an automated bot. A tag has been placed on Image:Earth-satellite-seasons.gif, by another Wikipedia user, requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. The tag claims that it should be speedily deleted because Image:Earth-satellite-seasons.gif is an image page for a missing or corrupt image or an empty image description page for a Commons-hosted image.
To contest the tagging and request that administrators wait before possibly deleting Image:Earth-satellite-seasons.gif, please affix the template {{hangon}} to the page, and put a note on its talk page. If the article has already been deleted, see the advice and instructions at WP:WMD. Feel free to contact the bot operator if you have any questions about this or any problems with this bot, bearing in mind that this bot is only informing you of the nomination for speedy deletion; it does not perform any nominations or deletions itself.
