[edit] History
Frontside was founded in March 2003 by Geoff Goddard and Gary McDonald, both former employees of Canadian record label Nettwerk Records. With combined experience in radio, A&R, and promotions, the two set out to build a company based on the promotion and nurturing of artists without actually putting out records. In the 4 years the company has been in operation they have built up a client list to include many top-selling Canadian acts as well as several corporate heavyweights. The company has also grown in numbers, taking on new employees in response to the growing industry demand for Frontside's services. Frontside's office in Vancouver now employs 8 full-time staff who oversee ongoing projects in radio promotion, publicity, street/lifestyle marketing, online/viral marketing, and artist management.
In 2007, Frontside founder Gary McDonald left Vancouver to open a new office in New York City. The company's new presence in the US market has already led to a partnership with Eleven Seven Music, a record label founded by Allen Kovac, CEO of 10th Street Entertainment. The label currently works with a star-studded roster including Nikki Sixx, Debbie Harry, Buckcherry and more. The strength of this relationship and others has increased Frontside's profile in the US, and will inevitably lead to the company's expansion internationally.
[edit] Notable Achievements
[edit] Commercial Radio
In 2005, Frontside Promotions took Sum41's single "Pieces" to #1 at three Canadian Commercial Radio formats - Rock, Top 40, and Hot A/C. This was only the second time in BDS history that such success has been achieved. In 2007, Frontside spearheaded the commercial radio campaign for a single called "Money Honey" by a virtually unknown band called State of Shock, landing top 10 chart positions, #1 on iTunes, and Gold Record status for the band.
[edit] Non-Commercial/Campus radio
In 2006, Frontside Promotions landed two #1 positions on the Canadian National College Radio chart with Islands and MSTRKRFT. In 2004, Frontside helped Sweatshop Union land the #1 spot on the College Hip-Hop charts.
[edit] Online/Viral Marketing
In 2006, Frontside Promotions secured featured placement of Jeremy Fisher's video for "Cigarette" on the front page of YouTube, resulting in over 1 million views in less than 2 weeks. The attention generated a great deal of buzz within the music industry, and helped Jeremy land a record deal with US label Wind-Up Records.
