Madison Finn is the main character in the book series, From the Files of Madison Finn, written by Laura Dower. Madison is a seventh grade computer whiz who faces everyday life trauma from crushes and personal appearance, to friendship problems, and her parent's recent divorce, Madison calls "the Big D." In the Super Edition book, To Have and To Hold, Madison's dad, Jeff Finn gets married to his girlfriend Stephanie. Madison's best friends are Aimee Gillespie, Lindsay Frost, Madhur Singh, and Fiona Waters. Aimee, Egg (Walter Diaz) and Drew (Andrew)were her main friends at the beginning of the story. Madison is developing a crush on Hart Jones. She competes with her arch enemy Ivy Daly to see who can win the man. Madison also has a cute pug named Phineus T. Finn (AKA Phinnie) and loves chatting with her keypal, Bigwheels, who has a lot in common with Madison. She goes through many problems throughout the series, which end in her realizing how lucky and special it is to has what she has. Madison often starts a story by typing in a file on her computer. The series is published by Disney Press.

- Ivy Daly, A.K.A. Poison Ivy, is a girl with red hair and a snobbish attitude who is Madison, Aimee and Fiona's enemy. She once was Madison's best friend, but the two turned into enemies. She is usually Madison's lab partner, but she rarely does her own work, preferring to copy Madison's. She considered Hart her boyfriend in the earlier books, but Hart himself told Madison he never really liked her. Ivy used to be Madison's BFF as told in Lost and Found. They had a fight in 3rd grade. She has two cronies, Rose (a.k.a. Rose Thorn) and Joan (a.k.a. Phony Joanie), who the three call Rose Thorn and Phony Joanie, respectively.
- Aimee Gillespie is a girl whom Madison has been friends with ever since she was born (mentioned in Boy Oh Boy!, book #2 in the series). She is thin and blonde, and loves to dance. She is also very afraid of water, : when they were little, she fell in the water and never came up until a minute after.
- Bigwheels is Madison's keypal. Her real name is Vikki. They meet in the Only the Lonely, on bigfishbowl, a site that Madison frequents. She has a brother with autism.
- Fiona Waters is a girl who moved to Far Hills from California. She has a twin brother, Chet. In Only the Lonely, she showed interest in being Ivy's friend, but soon chose Madison.
- Walter "Egg" Diaz is Madison's male friend. He got his nickname when an egg was thrown in his face one Halloween. He is also Fiona's boyfriend after they get together in the middle of the series.
- Hart Jones is Madison's crush throughout the series. Ivy and Madison were fighting over him, until he finally admitted his crush on Madison near the end of the series. Hart moved away in the second grade, but moved back. In the end him and Madison say that they like each other and kiss. But Hart moves away again.
- Chet Waters is Fiona Water's twin brother. He is considered "annoying" by Fiona and the other girls. His best friends are Walter Diaz, Hart Jones, Drew Maxwell, and Dan Ginsburg. In the 22nd book, All Shook up, he admitted his crush on Madhur Singh, a friend of Madison's.
- Drew Maxwell is one of Madison's guy friends. He is the quiet one of the group, also the richest one out of them all. In the middle of the series, Drew admitted to liking Madison and asked her to the "Heart 2 Heart" Dance and she immediately turned him down. He is also second cousins with Hart.
- Dan Ginsburg is one of Madison's other guy friends. In fifth grade, most kids called him "Pork-o" because he ate everyone's food when they were done. He works as a volunteer at the veteranairy clinic with Madison. In the 11th book, he admitted to liking Madison and being her secret admirer.
- Lindsay Frost is one of Madison's friends. Madison had known her since first grade, but never really knew her well. She was first featured in the 3rd book, Play it Again, as the girl who had the voice, but was very shy. Her parents were going to be divorced, but it was never mentioned after the 20th book, All that Glitters.
- Madhur Singh is Madison's newest pal. She and her family were from India. Madison had seen her in class but never knew her until the 22nd book, All Shook Up. She admitted to liking Hart Jones, but gave up on him when she found out accidentally that Madison and Hart were going out. In the end, she ended up with Chet Waters.
- Josh Turner was Madison's crush when Madison saw him in the neighborhood. But ended up with Hart.
- Mark was Madison's crush when she had visited her Grandma Helen during fireworks festival. Mark was the first boy to kiss Madison.
