From Here to Eternity was a six-hour 1979 television mini-series, followed by a thirteen episode 1980 television series.

The mini-series was a remake of the 1953 film From Here to Eternity, based on the 1951 novel of the same name. All three concluded with the December 7, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor.

The story details the men and families of G Company, 24th Infantry Division. With the main sub-plot being Sgt. Warden’s (William Devane) ongoing affair with Karen Holmes (Natalie Wood), the wife of his commanding officer.

It is 1941 and Pvt. Robert E. Lee Prewitt (Steve Railsback) is new to G Company. He has personnel issues with some of the company’s officers, and becomes involved with Lorene Rogers (Kim Basinger), a local prostitute. Things take a turn for the worse when Pvt. Prewitt is sent to the stockade for a few monthes of what turns out to brutal mis-treatment.

The mini-series reused some footage from Tora! Tora! Tora! (1970) for the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Natalie Wood won the 1980 Golden Globe for Best TV Actress - Drama.

After the attack on Pearl Harbor, Honolulu is under martial law. The men of G Company, deal with the war, and their personal lives. Jeff Prewitt (Don Johnson) becomes involved with his late brother’s girlfriend, Lorene.
