From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Fritz Kasparek (July 3, 1910, Vienna - June 6, 1954, Salcantay) was an Austrian mountain climber.

Kasparek gained his first alpine experiences in the mountains of Peilstein, near Vienna. He was the first person to climb many mountains including being part of a team that on July 24, 1938, with Anderl Heckmair, Ludwig Vörg, and Heinrich Harrer scaled Mount Eiger in the Swiss Alps.

Kasparek died in 1954 with the attempt to climb Salcantay in Peru, supposedly due to the breaking of a cornice.
