[edit] School Mascot

The school mascot is the raccoon.

Until 2003 the mascot was simply the Coon (later changed to the Fighting Coon). Though coon is a shortened form of raccoon, it is also considered in some circles to be a racial slur against African-Americans. After some residents filed a court case, the school board elected to change the mascot to raccoon.

[edit] History

Around 1700 students are enrolled for 2006-2007 at Frisco High, the lowest number since originally opening. As a result of the fast-growing population in Frisco (estimated at about 83,000 in 2006 from a population of 33,714 during the 2000 census, Frisco Centennial High School was opened in 2003 and two additional high schools, Liberty and Wakeland, have opened for the 2006-2007 school year.

[edit] School Organizations

[edit] Competitive

FHS German Club: The German club has competed in the local Winterfest Competition for the past 3 years and in the associated Sportfest for the past 2 years. In the 2007-2008 school year two students progressed to the state level. They competed in the German Level 2 Sight Reading and the German Level 4 Poetry Memory competitions. The places received were 8th and 6th respectively.

FHS Band : Directors of the program currently include Ken Ringel, Marcus Hunley, Heath Dillard, with Toby Leikness as the Color Guard director. In both 2006 and 2007 the band achieved a one in the UIL Marching Band competition and advanced to Area Marching Contest.

FHS Varsity Football Team : This football team had a major achievement in making it to the playoffs in 2007-2008, but were defeated by the Highland Park Scots.

[edit] Noncompetitive

The Frisco Glee Club is run by a new student teacher. It has had an amazing first year with show attendance in the double digits. Its patriotic show brought much recognition and pride to FHS.

[edit] Rivalries

FHS and Centennial High School : The rivalry between these schools is friendly, but there have been occasions where vandalism has occurred as a result of perceived rivalry.
