Friends of the Orphans

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Friends of the Orphans was established in 1965 for the purpose of supporting the physical, spiritual and emotional needs of NPH children. Friends serves as the American fundraising arm for an organization called,Nuestros Pequeños Hermanos (NPH) which is Spanish for “Our Little Brothers & Sisters”). Together they have opened orphanages in nine developing countries (Bolivia, Dominican Republic, El Salvador, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Mexico and Peru), as well as a free-of-cost hospital in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Friends of the Orphans goal is to get Americans involved in supporting the orphanages, allow the children to grow up in their culture, and to remain with any existing family if at all possible. Since the founding of NPH, hundreds of staff, volunteers and generous Friends have helped provide loving and stable homes to over 15,000 children. Today, thousands of these pequeños are now self-sufficient adults with families of their own. NPH outreach programs, including hospitals and clinics, serve over 30,000 adults and children each year. Today, the organization has expanded to six regional offices, with its national office located in Chicago, Illinois.
