Friends of New Germany
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Friends of New Germany was an organization founded in 1933 in support of the Nazi party in the United States.
In May of 1933, the Nazi Deputy Führer, Rudolf Hess authorized a German citizen living in the United States, Heinz Spanknobel, to form a Nazi American organization. The result was the creation of the Friends of New Germany. Assistance was given to its formation by the German consul in the City of New York. The organization, though based in New York City, had a strong presence in Chicago, Ill.
Nazis, out of Germany, made considerable efforts to establish an American counterpart organization. Recruiting commenced as early as 1924. Yet the first significantly large organized group was this entity, Friends of New Germany, which was formed in July of 1933. It came into existence after, upon orders from Berlin, the prior Nazi entities were dissolved.
