Friedrich Amelung

Friedrich Ludwig Balthasar Amelung (23 March 184221 March 1909) was an Estonian chess player, endgame composer, and journalist of Baltic German origin.

Amelung was born at Võisiku (Woiseck) manor near Viljandi, Livonia. He played a few games with Adolf Anderssen, Neumann, Mayet, Schallopp, Ascharin, Emanuel Schiffers. He published about 230 endgame studies. He died in Riga.
