The "French Military Victories" was just a practical joke written by a Candian. Jon 16:34, 11 May 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Purpose of such article?

I wonder why such an article would be present in a serious "Encyclopedia". Several pages through this website notify of real History events during which France was helpful (militarily or financially) to the US before or after WWII, and I believe these events have more relevance in an Encyclopedia than jokes based on false historical or factual allegations.

Besides, there are numerous organizations through the United States or France whose purpose is to bring together people from different countries, and help them discover each other's cultures. This page blatantly displays opinions related to anti-French and self-centered opinions, and I believe it should be removed and replaced by a page talking about one of these organizations. Then the purpose would clearly be a positive one, since there are already many redundant pages on country-related hatred on Wikipedia, up to an almost ridiculous point. A caricature of the situation (presence of pages without a purpose that only make people hate each other on no basis besides a meaningless webpage) propose pages about people in Louisiana hating people in Oregon, people in California hating people from every other state of the U.S.A., or people from Texas wanting to start a war with a different third-world country each year.

If there is evidence (besides from newspaper and books) of people hating other peoplebased solely on their provenance and when they were born, this should be filed either in a page called "hate based on national belonging", or maybe under "poor knowledge of History" under the "important knowledge deficiencies" page, or under "hooliganism" if protests need to be documented.

I wish to bring forward that unlike any "paper" encyclopedia, this online encyclopedia is the first one in History to bring forward webpages as "significant" of the times we live in, or representative of present History, and I believe this should be handled with extreme care.

-- I also think it should be deleted. Since the joke has no truth behind it, it is nothing more than a popular joke. An offensive, unfunny, anti-french joke. It also leaves like half the people who read it with the impression it is true, so it contributes to spreading misinformation.

This article is nothing but a joke and should be removed. Also the article mentions "The government of France question the supposed existence of caches of weapons of mass destruction and opposed the rush to an invasion of Iraq. This led to attempts by war-supporters to promote hatred of the French by vilifying, disparaging and ridiculing the French" the explanation is not true. The joke had nothing to do with hatred towards France.

[edit] Change

I've taken away the phrase about France having more military victories than most nations. It is certainly true (and if some rigorous definition for "victory" can be mustered I'm sure France, counting from 987, would be top five all time), but it also seems like POV pushing, and we shouldn't go down that road.UberCryxic 02:22, 30 August 2006 (UTC)
