"Think 'free speech', not 'free beer.'" – Richard Stallman This idea needs elaboration, but it's here as a seed for development of this article. <>< tbc
I visited this article on Wikipedia specifically because I had recently seen the phrases "free (as in beer)" and "free (as in beer and speech)" online. I started to wonder what the origin of these distinctions were and came to this article. Sadly, the information I was looking for was only here, on the discussion page. If these phrases are coming anywhere close to the common (internet) parlance, then IMO there should definitely be a Wikipedia page (this one or another) briefly explaning the origin and meaning behind them. Also: what's with the "free to write for TLove" part about? -IQpierce

"Free as in speech" means unrestricted, "free as in beer" means without cost.
Is this whole article not something that belongs on the wiktionary ? I would propose to delete it.
- It is currently a dismbiguation page. Intro looks like a dicdef, so needs to go. The rest maybe should be moved to freedom if not deleted. Is anyone going to genuinely search for free expecting any of these and why shouldn't this disambig be merged with freedom? —Joe Llywelyn Griffith Blakesley talk contrib 20:39, 28 March 2006 (UTC)
- I'd also like to see 'free like speech, not like beer' on here somehow. I'm not sure how best to do it, but like many others here agree it needs presence. ThuranX 02:06, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Mariella Clark
Mariella Clark is a 20 year old singer songwriter. Born and raised in New York, Mariella always dreamed of hitting the big time. From the early age of 4 she began to sing, entering a numerous amount of karaoke and singing competitions all over America, there just wasn't any luck for her. It wasn't until she reached her teens, 15 to be percise, that her parents (Greg and Sophia) moved to Los Angeles, California so that they could do something practical about there daughters dreams. After 2 months of getting there daughter settled in, they sent Mariella to the local recording studio where she recorded a demo tape in which was sent all over California for record producer to listen to. Again, Mariella still couldn't catch her big break. So her parents entered her in an American Junior Singers Competition hosted by the one and only Randy Jackson. Mariella rolled up in 3rd place and didn't get signed to Hollywood Records, but Randy Jackson saw a star in the girl and signed her to a 4 year contract with Syco/sonyBMG: home to such singers as Leona Lewis, Sean Kingston, The Fray, Avril Lavigne etc... At the age of 17 going on 18 Mariella started to work with other artists and producers to create her debut album (Blessed). After 3 hard years of work, Mariella finally finished her album. She also released her debut single Never Again in which reached the top 10 in both singles and download charts. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mariellaclark (talk • contribs) 21:47, 9 February 2008 (UTC)
