[edit] Date of initial construction

The external website says the bridge was constructed in 1950, but I thought I'd mention this here first before changing it in the article. -- Gyrofrog (talk) 06:03, 8 February 2006 (UTC)

Good catch. I have other sources, though, saying that it was built in 1941, including this one. I'll try to locate the definitive answer unless someone else beats me to it. Doctor Whom 14:05, 8 February 2006 (UTC)
I have read the debate here on the construction of the bridge. I recently acquired a map road map, produced by Esso (predecessor to Exxon). The map was definately produced between 1947 and 1952, based on research on road construction.
The map shows a bridge under construction at South Capital Street. It is apparent that the 1941 date is an error. The likely completion date was 1951. User:Byron1
