"Caroline Habsburg-Lotharingen". Is Lotharingen something different from Lothringen? Or is it derived from the Latin form Lotharingia? (Compare French Lorraine.)

No, there is no difference. Lotharingen is the original spelling of Lothringen, since the name is derived from the name "Lothar". -- Cordyph
