[edit] Birthplace

Various internet sources ([1]; [2]) state that Tunstall was born in Gravesend, but a reputable book reference Football in Sheffield, Percy A Young (1962), ISBN 0-9506272-4-0 states he was born in Wombwell. Can anyone verify his correct place of birth? Hawksworthm 02:43, 25 October 2006 (UTC)

The Fred Tunstall who was born in Gravesend had his birth registered between April and June 1901 ([3]), so it looks likely that he wasn't born there. There were two Fred Tunstalls registered in 1897 ([4]): one between July-Sept in Barnsley and another between April and June in Newcastle-under-Lyme. The fact that Tunstall played as a youth in Darfield (Barnsley), which is a "suburb" adjacent to Wombwell would suggest thet the Barnsley version is the correct man. Views on this hypothesis would be welcome as the "Wombwell Fred" features in my family history Mikebones 12:57, 17 September 2007 (UTC)

Update on birthplace, death place and date and name. Fred Tunstall's death certificate ([5])shows that he died on 21st July 1971 in Boston Lincolnshire, and that he was born on 28th May 1897 in Darfield Yorkshire. His profession at death is given as "Professional Football Trainer (Retired)/Groundsman". Both his Birth and Death Certificate ([6]) name him as "Fred" not "Frederick Edward". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Mikebones (talk • contribs) 11:46, 4 October 2007 (UTC)
