Karno also attempted to become involved with Hollywood and Max Sennet, with little success. According to Stan Laurel (interview in the book, "Mr laurel and Mr Hardy" much of Karno's financial collapse was through the failure of a giant entertainment complex which he built in London. Karno was legendary for not paying his performers (see Stan Laurel's comments) and once faced a strike by Music Hall performers.
