The article on Fred Basolo was created because Mr. Basolo was a national figure in American society - he served as President of a prestigious national scientific society, and was an influential educator. In addition, he received some prestigious awards which recognized his work in chemistry and education.

It certainly is more important to remember such a lifetime of work than to remember every soccer (football) player in the Australian, Polish, or English leagues, which seem to make up a significant percentage of the present Wikipedia content. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Raymondwinn (talkcontribs)
