[edit] Biography

Paraíba, Cuper, Vavo and Nego, all friends from school, formed the band in late 1999. Lezo joined them a few months later, playing the bass. They uploaded their first acoustic compositions onto the Internet and quickly gathered many fans. In 2001, the group recorded their first demo EP, O Acaso do Erro. During the making of this EP, Nego left the band and Paraíba took over the vocals. The band has been a four-piece ever since.

They went to studio once again in 2003 and recorded their first full-length album, Quarto dos Livros, highlighted by the tracks "Teu Semblante", "Carpe Diem" and "Stonehenge". In the following year, their second album was released. Named O Rio, a Cidade, a Árvore, it helped to establish Fresno on the web with the track "Onde Está"'.

On June 24, 2006 there was the official release of their third album, Ciano. The album features 14 tracks (including 3 bonus new versions to songs from Quarto dos Livros), clearly showing the group's evolution.

It was announced on October 26, 2006, on Fresno's official website, that former bassist Lezo had voluntarily left the band due to personal reasons. One month later, on November 26, he explained, through an open letter, he had chosen to pursue his Law diploma instead of staying on the band. He also stated that he didn't find himself good enough a musician in comparison to his friends on Fresno, and he was sure the band would only improve with his departure. Rodrigo Tavares (from Abril, another band from Porto Alegre) was chosen as the band's new bassist.

Their first live album, MTV Ao Vivo 5 Bandas de Rock, was recorded on February 14, 2007 at Via Funchal, in São Paulo, Brazil, and released on May 2007, featuring the live single, Polo. The other rock bands participating on that same MTV live project are NX Zero, Hateen, Forfun and Moptop.

The band won the "New Artist" category on the MTV VMB 2007 Awards, held on September 27, 2007 in São Paulo, and broadcast live on MTV Brazil.

In April 2008, the band released their latest album, Redenção, with a notoriously less emo sound, closer to powerpop. The album contains 13 tracks, out of which 10 brand new songs and 3 new versions to previously released tracks ("Alguém que te Faz Sorrir" appears on Redenção in its already fourth version released, or third studio version released).

Shortly after the release of Redenção, an announcement posted in the band's fotolog stated that, as of May 4th 2008, Cuper was no longer a member of the band. Although an offical reason was never made clear, it is believed that creative differences and some friction between the musicians may have lead to the decision. Rodrigo Ruschel, aka Bell, was called to replace Cuper as Fresno's drummer. Like Tavares, he had also played with Abril.
