This article is about a defunct station on the Isle of Wight, not the similarly named [1]station on the Skyrail & Kuranda Scenic Railway in Cairns, Australia.

Freshwater railway station, was the westerly terminus [2] and largest station [3] of the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway, the platform being extended to accommodate the “Tourist Train”, a non-stop service from Ventnor[4]. Incorporated as the Freshwater, Yarmouth and Newport Railway Company in 1860 [5], opened over a ten month period between 1889 and 1889 and closed 65 years later [6] it was situated too far from the tourist honeypots of The Needles and Alum Bay to be consistently profitable [7]. There was additionally a run-round loop and a goods siding, often used for cattle docking [8]. After closure the station was built over[9] by a factory, but this in turn has been demolished and a supermarket occupies the site.
