David Lynch is known for his constant collaboratios with various of the same actors and crew in his productions. Most notably, he frequently uses Angelo Badalamenti to compose music for his productions, in Blue Velvet (1986), Twin Peaks (1990-1991), Wild at Heart (1990), On the Air, Lost Highway (1997) and Mulholland Drive (2001).

Many of Lynch's films have bit parts played by musicians who have various degrees of acting experience: Sting in Dune, Chris Isaak in Fire Walk With Me, David Bowie in Fire Walk With Me, Julee Cruise in Twin Peaks and Fire Walk With Me, John Lurie in Wild at Heart (film)|Wild at Heart, Marilyn Manson, Twiggy Ramirez and Henry Rollins in Lost Highway, and Billy Ray Cyrus in Mulholland Drive.

Lynch himself appears in The Amputee, Dune, Twin Peaks and Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me. He also made speaking cameos in INLAND EMPIRE and Nadja. He is also in a deleted scene from Lost Highway.
