French ship Scipion (1779)

The Scipion was a French warship of the 18th century.
The French Fleet fought with the United States against the British in the American War of Independence. In October 1782, the Scipion and the French warship Sibylle were pursued by HMS London and HMS Torbay off San Domingo. After HMS London was damaged by gunfire, the Scipion escaped only to strike a rock and sink the following day in Samana Bay.
